Hey, how's it going?
Uh_
Today we're [F] going to make a video about
YouTube copyright system.
[G] _ Now_
In the past, we've kind of [G] just made fun
of how seemingly hopeless [F] the situation feels for creators.
Sometimes these companies will abuse
[F] YouTube's copyright system
and claim all the revenue,
even though the music we use
[D] is literally our own violin playing.
[G] But this time, I feel like [F] it's gone a little bit too far.
A company [G] called TuneCore
has decided to [F] copystrike
our entire 4MILL Mendelssohn concert.
During the livestream, we had some Bach piano music,
and our team was very careful to select
a recording that was in the public domain.
I'm sure those that follow our channel
[G] know just how [A] symbolic of an event this was [F] for all of us,
and how much work was included by everyone in the team. The company_
Sorry, Brett's just dying over here.
In sadness because his Mendelssohn concerto
[G] was taken away [F] from him.
Mm.
YouTube has a system where you can dispute this,
but then you have [Cm] companies like [F] TuneCore or Oregon Publishing,
I'm not sure who was responsible for making this decision,
dispute our claim.
You don't see the reason of the dispute,
it just says,
your dispute was rejected.
[E] One can only [F] imagine that they might have [C] malicious intent
to try and just claim the work of others.
Now, this [A] puts us in a very tricky situation,
the way YouTube is set up.
We can dispute one more time,
but if this doesn't go through,
[F] we risk getting a copyright strike.
A [G] channel, once it gets three strikes,
the entire channel is gone.
Eradicated.
It really does feel like
as creators, we're at the mercy of the system.
Companies actually just automatically strike everything,
[C] and kind of [Bb] hoping content creators are apathetic,
so that that's another way they make [G] money.
Well, sometimes they claim [F] videos
that you posted three years ago,
and you don't even realize because [Bb] it doesn't show up.
Yeah, [Db] situations like this,
someone was behind [F] it,
and they clearly just [C] don't care.
Obviously, we still want the video up.
We're not gonna [G] take the video off.
We want everyone to share and enjoy this concert for [Bb] everyone.
But it kind of begs the [G] question,
like, where do we go from here, you know?
So much effort was placed into this video.
So much money [Bb] was from our savings to everyone.
Not just us, like, single symphony orchestra.
We all [G] went in on this.
It seems a [F] bit unfair.
That's why we're making this video.
Otherwise, we normally would kind of just move on
and let these_
I don't know, call them leeches,
have it.
Slaaaap!
But now it's kind of like,
oh, it's a little bit too far,
and it's all on us if we dispute again,
and our channel gets [Eb] striked.
And there's no consequences on the people
falsely claiming this.
[F] Like, I'll give you another [E] example.
Post-concert signing [F] event,
where we used Brett's very own recording.
That got copystriked by_ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ Our two last videos too,
where we were kind of calling out toxic, bleak behavior.
Those two videos got reported for age restriction.
You know, this usually doesn't [E] happen,
so one can only imagine [F] someone [F] maliciously reported.
We appealed,
and then thankfully someone on YouTube had [Eb] to
human review it and be like,
actually, these videos are fine.
But I think that made a tweet.
[F] You were responding to us and saying that_
Well, I'm glad they [A] had someone review it.
But it [Eb] just feels like this whole system is like,
[F] anyone with nothing to lose
can just go around and take your hard work.
We're just kind of at the point where it's like,
well, [Gm] what's the point of [F] putting all this effort in?
[C] Um_
Last like, five pieces of content all got_ _claimed.
It's been going [Dm] forever.
We don't know what to do.
Goodbye.
_ [F] But I think [G] these companies that are abusing the system
should be called out.
[F] We don't know if it's a company or whatever.
So we just ask that these companies do a review
and [Eb] actually see what's going on.
Is this how you make [G] money?
Or is it an accident [C] and you guys will fix this?
But this kind of has gone so long!
It just hasn't been fixed.
It hasn't been fixed!
Yep, that's our depressing [Eb] content for today.
[G] Hope everyone's all good. Keep practicing.
[F] At the end of the day, keep practicing.
Yes, it's_
Because no one can take that practice away from you.
Alright, anyway.
Thanks so much for [D] watching.
[Bb] If you like our stuff, support us by subscribing.
And watch [Gb] our content.
Yeah.
That's [G] it.
Bye bye.
