[E]
Yes, this [A] is ska, original and indigenous.
[E] The music of guitar, saxophone, [B] trumpet, bass [A] and drums.
[E] These instruments are playing a monotonic grassroots rhythm.
This beat has taken Jamaica by storm and is swiftly spreading to other parts of the [A] world.
Now, what is the authentic [E] style of this new dance grace?
[B] Let's take a look [F#]-see, shall we?
[A]
[E]
There are four basic steps to the ska.
The first is to keep the beat with the upper half of the [A] body,
bowing forward with a straight back [E] and a slight bend in both knees.
At [B] the first bow, the arms [F#m] extend to the sides.
[E] At the second bow, the arms cross in front.
The body straightens up in between the change of arms from one position to the other.
[A]
Basic step [E] number two is practically the same as step number one,
[B] but with the addition [A] of a side step.
[E] First to the right by moving the right leg on the extension of the arms,
then bringing up the left leg on the closing of the arms.
[A]
Step number three [E] is once again very similar.
Only the [B] arms change.
[A] First right, then left, [E] swing up and down in front of the body,
finishing with the body beat when the right arm is in the air
and then when the left arm is in the air.
The arms are to be very [A] relaxed
and then swung on either side of the [E] legs or between the legs.
These basic steps [B] may be done face to [D] face or side by side [E] with your partner.
Finally, our fourth basic step.
Now, this is perhaps the most energetic of all [A] the basic ska steps.
It's being done [E] by two members of the band and it's called rowing.
[G#m] A similar action to rowing [A#] a boat.
[A]
It is either done facing your [E] partner or beside your partner.
The first move is to reach out with the arms,
keeping both back and legs perfectly straight to form an angle at the waist.
[A] Then a pullback, throwing backwards the [E] upper half of the body from the knees up.
[B] Ska is as [A] easy as that.
[E] How about us joining a regular ska session?
