[G]
When Jacob awoke, he thought to himself, surely the Lord is in this place, and I [D] was not aware.
[G]
God's presence only awaits your awareness.
[Em] When he [F#m] awoke, he took a stone, and he poured oil on it, and he declared, This is the house of [G] God.
This is the gate of heaven.
Somebody say, This is the gate.
[D] [G] The pain I'm going through right now is the gateway to greater purpose.
Somebody say, This is the gate.
[D] [G]
The sufferings of this [D] present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that
will be revealed.
This is [Bm] the gate.
They that wait upon the Lord will [D] renew their strength.
[F#m] Waiting is the gateway to strength.
This is the gate.
[G]
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.
This is the gate.
[A] Upon this rock, I will build my church, and the [Bm] gates of hell will [G] not prevail.
We are the gates of heaven.
We are the people of God.
[A] We are the children of [Bm] promise.
We are the people of God.
[D] This is the gate of heaven.
[G] We are the people of God.
This is the gate of heaven, and we are the people of God.
[A] Isn't that right?
[Bm]
[D] [G]
Jacob, taking a stone, [D] commemorated his encounter [G] with God.
He commemorated that place where God appeared to him in his wandering [D] and in his weakness.
I remember when I [A] first read about the command that God gave through Moses to the Israelites,
the people of [Em] God, made up of 12 tribes.
We've heard about the 12 [G] stones that they took out of the Jordan when they crossed over
under Joshua's leadership [D] to memorialize the miracle.
It is good [A] to remember those things that God has brought you through that only he could
bring you through.
To [G] declare, surely [D] the presence of the Lord is in this place.
He was in my [G] darkest valley.
He was in [A] my weakest moment.
[G] Even when I was at my most [D] sinful, God [A] was at his most merciful.
[D] [G]
We [Bm] remember his [A] presence with us in [G] the transitions of our lives.
Something that is very interesting is what God said to Moses when he [D] instructed that
an altar be built.
[G] He said, If you build an altar for me, I don't want you to build it with stones that you have cut.
The [D] Bible says that this altar was to be built [G] of unhewn stones that were not carved with human hands.
These stones would [D] be imperfect stones.
When you build an altar to [G] me, God says, I don't want something that you manufacture.
I don't want something that you [Em] design.
I want something with [D] rough edges and broken [G] places.
[Bm] Peter had a revelation in the New Testament.
He said that we are living stones.
[A] You and I, the church [G] of Jesus Christ, we are being built together as a spiritual house,
[D]
and we fit together just right.
The thing about broken stones is if you're going to build an [A] altar out of broken stones,
[G]
you take one stone that is [Em] broken and [G] another stone that is broken, [D] but they are broken
in such [A] a beautiful way that they fit together just right.
[D] That's what church is, [G] you know.
It's a bunch of broken stones coming together [Dm] in the name of Jesus to declare the [A] praises
of him who called us out of darkness [D] and [G] into his wonderful light.
We are an altar of broken stones.
[D] We're not perfect, but our offering is, because his name is Jesus.
He is a lamb without blemish, slain from the [G] foundation of the world.
I want you to know today, wherever you are and whatever you're going through, [Bm] there's
a place for you in the [A] family of [D] God.
[G] He is pleased with the offering.
[Bm] What can we offer the King of all?
[G] What would he want with these broken stones, these [Bm] dysfunctional people?
[D] What would he want with [G] humanity?
[F#m] [D] But our [G]
hallelujah [D] here below is a sound [G] that the angels can't make because [Bm]
[A] they've never
been redeemed like we've been redeemed.
There is a praise that can only [G] come from broken people who know that if it had not
[Bm] been for the mercy of God, I [A] wonder, are there any living stones?
With a full broken hallelujah, [D] would you just [G] lift your voice right now?
He wants to hear your hallelujah.
[D]
Not a performance and [A] not our perfection, but let's take 18 seconds [B] and give our [D] God
our [G] very best praise.
Hallelujah.
[D]
Thank you Jesus.
Come on [A] glorify him in this place.
