No, that's wrong.
When I was about 12 years old.
[F#] That was a few more than 12 years ago.
My grandmother gave me a guitar.
Yay, Grandma!
Far out.
[Em] It was an old beat-up 1910 Gibson F-hole jazz guitar.
It's the one that I learned how to play on.
[B] And for a large part of my life,
I had that guitar with me everywhere that I went.
On the farm back in Oklahoma, on wheat harvest.
Anyway, about five years ago, I lost that guitar.
And it was kind of a sad occasion in my life.
But last January, when we were [F#] filming our television special out here,
[F#m] I found it again.
[F#] It kind of freaked me out.
I couldn't wait to get home with it and sit down and play it again, you know?
And I did that.
We got real comfortable.
I told it all that had happened to me since the last time I'd seen it.
[D] It told me a few stories.
Someplace in the conversation, we [A#] found this [D] song.
[A] [Bm] [F#m]
[G] [A]
[Bm] [G] [D]
This [A] old guitar taught me [Bm] to sing [F#m] a love song
[G] Showed me how [A] to laugh and [D] how to cry
[Bm] It [G] introduced me to [A] some friends of mine
And brightened [Bm] up some days
[G] And helped me make it [A] through some [D] lonely nights
[Bm] Oh, what [Gm] a friend to [A] have on a cold and [D] lonely night
[Bm] This [G] [A]
[D] [A] old guitar gave me [Bm] my [F#] lovely lady
[G] It opened up [A] her eyes and ears [D] to me
[Bm] [G] It brought us [A] close together
[D] I guess it broke [Bm] her heart
[G] It opened up [A] the space for us to [D]
[F#m] be
[G] What a lovely place [A] and a lovely space to be
[Bm] [G]
[A] This old guitar gave me my [Bm] life, [F#m] my living
[G]
All the [A] things you know I [D] love to do
[Bm]
[F#m] [G] To serenade [A] the stars that shine [D] from a [A] sunny mountainside
[G] Most of all [A] to sing my songs [D] for you
[Bm] [G]
I love [A] to sing my [D] songs for you
Yes [Bm] I do, you know
[G] I [A] love to sing my [D] songs for [Bm] you
[G] [A]
[D] Mmm
[Bm] [G]
Ooh [A] dee ooh dee ooh [Bm]
dee [G] Whoa
And [D]
[Bm] [G] [A] I love you people
[D] Thank you very much
