Oh, we're on, are we?
Oh, goodness, we're on.
Back with the Homes program.
John Davey is, of course, hang on, we've done that one.
You don't see this very often.
You don't see this very often.
But this is a very special occasion.
This is something usually kept in the family, we understand,
reserved for the family gatherings.
Tim and Neil Finn performing together, playing together, singing together,
but it's New Zealand Music Month, is it not?
So that's why we're here together.
And you're doing a concert together, a major concert together, Friday night, Tim.
Yeah, at St James Theatre, Paul.
In Auckland, of course.
That's right, here in Auckland, and the Friday and the Sunday night.
As you say, we don't do it that often, so we're pretty psyched for it.
Yeah, we've been rehearsing away.
That's good.
We had a rehearsal for the walk-in too, just for the little segment, didn't we?
And what happened to that, eh?
You did a rehearsal for the walk-off too, and [E] the camera got that, I think, didn't it?
But we're all here now, that's the main thing.
Do you ever start your concerts like that?
Do you ever suddenly fall apart at the start?
No.
Sometimes the shambles is good.
We actually did start a song again, the first song again,
on the Crowded House concert once, because everyone was out of tune.
That was kind of memorable.
Oh, I bet it was.
Yeah.
Oh, horrific, well, you'll all come back.
The relationship between, you know, people wonder forever what the relationship is between you.
I mean, we had the business, I mean, and we were just talking before we went on air
about how quickly the 90s went, but that was 91 when you said,
you [Fm] and Crowded House parted company on that tour of the UK.
What process was going on then?
Well, people are interested in the brotherly thing.
I think they have their own stories.
Every family has its stories, or, you know, I mean, that's why they [G] ask.
And we can either be diplomatic and go, you know, it's just wonderful and everything's fantastic,
or we could say that we occasionally have a bit of a scrap, you know, and that's fine.
Yeah, well, Tim never used to beat me up as a kid.
That was why I'm eternally grateful for that, because there's some horror stories about younger brothers.
There was enough of a gap between us [Ab] that I was, you know.
But it was younger brother becoming equal to the older brother, wasn't it?
It was younger brother
Slowly over a period of time, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
But you've still got to get him in the headlock occasionally, Paul, and just, you know, give him a little rub there.
The tightrope is on the chest, you know, doo-doo-doo-doo.
How's your CV going, [F] Feeding the Gods?
Well, it seems to be being received well at the moment.
I'm very gratified.
Yeah, yeah, people seem to like it.
A bit of it is about, I mean, some of it in your mind when you're putting that together is about your mum.
Mum died a couple of years back.
It's not about mum, but she's in every line, and, you know, I'm sure that Neil and I would agree
that when we go on stage on Friday and Sunday, you know, we've just got to think about mum for half a second
and we'll be there, you know.
She was a very inspiring [Dm] woman.
This was a great honour.
It's a tremendous honour to have you both performing, you know, together.
What are you going to do?
You're going to do a little number?
We are.
We're going to go back to a number that we wrote for [C] Crowded House, as it turned out,
and it's called It's Only Natural, and, yeah, it's good for us too.
We love to sing.
Fabulous.
You're going to be performing together at the St James Theatre Friday night for New Zealand Music Week.
And Sunday.
Friday and Sunday, and it's the theatre as Hooli, Paul.
We're bringing back the word Hooli.
Bring back the word Hooli.
I'll bring back myself.
I'll bring myself back to the control room.
Good luck. Thank you.
Thank you.
