TIM McGRAW "about "Highway Don't Care" chords
Start Jamming...
[D] I'm going to play the drums and electric guitar and bass.
Everything starts [E] with a song.
I think some of the best [B] poets that have ever lived [D] live here in this town.
With our number one [A] song, second week at number one, Tim McGraw.
[D] [Bm]
[D] [E] [A] He's making the best music he's ever made.
I just love it.
I think [D] he's singing better than ever.
And I really do think that his best music is still yet [G] to come.
No matter what Tim does, it's going to be important.
That's what he does [A] music for, is to make a difference.
He's got records that are like a place in country music history.
[Bm] Like everywhere was like a spot where records started sounding different.
Tim McGraw [G] continues to deliver songs to country radio that are really [A] more than number ones.
They're game [B] changers.
They move the needle.
[Eb] Listeners seek out Tim McGraw songs.
So we started the song in my office.
And I had, I keep a song title list.
And on it was, The Highway Don't Care, But I Do, I Do.
We wrote The Highway, it was four of us.
We were sitting there in the room and we were just spitting out ideas.
And I don't know, I was playing the piano, which is never really a great thing to start
the song with.
He and I both did a little beatbox thing, kind of countering each other on two different
tracks and that became the rhythm that we wrote to.
As we were writing the song, the Taylor part just kind of presented itself.
And I don't remember exactly who, it was probably Josh who said, hey, we should get a female
to do this part.
We loved the song from the get go.
We thought it was pretty cool.
And of course, as most songwriters do in Nashville, when they write what they think is a great
song, the first person they usually think of is Tim.
Because he cuts everything from when the stars go blue to, you know, if you're reading this,
I just threw my own song in there, just to be funny.
That was good, I like that.
Yeah, felt good on my lips.
What?
I mean, the demo's a lot different [A] than the record, but it just [E] had that sort of real
sexy, [Ab] sort of smoldering kind of [Bm] energy behind it.
[D] Taylor on Highway Don't Care, [E] I never had a second thought that that's who I [A] wanted
to sing that part on that song.
And that [D] record wouldn't be the same without her singing it.
I think she just brings something special to it.
Not [Bb] only because she's Taylor [G] Swift, but the quality that she brings and the [G] vulnerability
in her vocal on that [Am] record is just spectacular.
I had always hoped [D] that Tim would pick up the phone and say, sing a song with me.
And it's [Bm] almost like for years I was just waiting for the call.
And [D] finally, it was actually a text message.
[A] But he said, I have this song I found.
[D] I really, really think it's the right song for us to sing [A] together.
And then figuring out that Keith was going to play guitar on it, [D] it just, it was the perfect storm.
And [A] just like as a fan, I trusted Tim's choice in [D] music, I trusted his choice in music as a collaborator.
I've been looking [E] for something for Keith to play on for me [A] for years, because I'm a
big fan [G] of Keith's.
I think he's one [B] of our best artists that we have out there.
The great thing about How I Don't Care was [D] how it started for me.
Tim just called me one [A] day and said, I've got a song I'd love you [D] to play on.
And I said, well, send me the song.
And he sent it.
[Bm] And I thought the song was great.
Went in the studio and [Gm] did a solo.
And it was that [A] simple.
I mean, I just love the fact it was that [D] simple.
[Bm]
[G]
[D] [Bm]
Seeing [B] them perform it together on the ACMs [D] was just a magical [A] evening.
I got to watch it with my family, and it was such a great, classy performance.
I was just so proud.
Just to bring together Taylor Swift and Keith [E] Urban playing guitar on How I Don't Care,
[A] it's a big deal.
It's an important event.
So to have a [D] two-week number one anymore, you've essentially done the [Bm] impossible.
When Tim takes a song to number one, it usually stays for more [D] than one week.
That's really hard to do [A] now.
A song that spends more than one week at number one is really becoming a rarity.
In [Bb] fact, only a couple of [E] songs have managed that feat this year.
And of course, How We Don't Care is one of them.
And at the end [A] of the day, Tim McGraw got his biggest [D] digital sales week for a track
[Bm] ever since Billboard launched the digital tracks chart three years ago.
As a songwriter, you write so many songs, and you get so many no's.
No, no, no, no, no.
[E] That when you actually get a call, and it's Tim McGraw on the phone, and he says, I'm
cutting this song, and Taylor Swift's going [A] to be singing on it, and Keith [D] Urban's going
to be playing the guitar.
It's a pretty good day.
[Gbm] Yeah, it's a really good day.
It's a pretty good day.
We don't take it for granted.
It's really, really cool. We don't.
This is part of music.
[E] I think this song is going to be part of history.
It'll be part of his legacy.
[A] When you consider that Tim is still doing this almost 20 years into his national career,
it really [D] speaks to his incredible song [E] picking abilities.
I think something that's really propelled him throughout his career.
Featuring Taylor Swift on vocals, Keith Urban on guitar, Tim McGraw.
[G] He holds the number one this [N] week, second week at number one with a highway don't care.
[C]
Are [G] you going to play a rendering verse?
[C] Bet your wind is rolled down and your hair is [Am] pulled back.
[C] And I bet you got no idea you're going [G] way too fast.
[C] And you're trying to get ripped and get some [Am] abs.
And you're trying not to look old and look like flab.
[F] So you keep doing sit-ups, keep [G] doing sit-ups, keep doing [C] sit-ups.
Oh, it's time to sign for the show.
I can't live without you, I can't live [Am] without you, baby.
Hey, it's a guitar solo.
[F] I can't live without you, I [G] can't live without you, baby.
[C]
[Am] I [F] love you, Tim.
[G] Thank you.
We love you.
Thank you.
