Jam Along & Learn...
Hey all [D] we do occasional open tuning songs on the channel and
For all the beginners that probably is an intimidating thing because it is kind of like
a different language on the guitar, but some are easier than others or at least for me it they are and some are
lot simpler than us this if you're wanting to try an open tuning
Song to play so this one is in
D
which is that's the same as
Open E except all the strings each one is tuned down a little bit lower

Hey all _ _ [D] we do occasional open tuning songs on the channel _ and
For all the beginners that probably is an intimidating thing because it is kind of like
learning a different language on the guitar, but some are easier than others or at least for me it they are and some are
Some some songs are a lot simpler than us this if you're wanting to try an open tuning
This might be the absolute simplest
_ Song to play so this one is in
open D
[A] or [D] around over D _ _ _
_ _ _ which is that's the same as
Open E except all the strings each one is tuned down a little bit lower
But the [A] way to think about that if you're new to open tuning
_ _ Would be you know if this was your E chord first fret on G.
You know
A and D at second fret _
To make this
Sound like this of course.
It's tuned down to D.
You would have to [G] worry
You would just tune the a string up to that B note
tune the D string up to that
E note on the second fret of the D string and then tune the G string up one
To sound like that so you end up again to make it sound [D] you'd have to keep it
But this would it be what you get? _ _
You get an actual chord
_ [E] Just like if you fingered it sounds the same
[D] Now of [Ab] course there are different ways to do an open D tuning and open C.
There are different versions of it like like say open F
You could tune to open E
And then tune everything up one half a step or you could tune to open G and then tune everything down to
To sound F.
So there are different [D] ways to do them, but this open D
Is the open E [G] version of open D.
So anyway getting to the song enough of that
_ The way you play this one, there's only two chord positions.
There's the _ _
_ [A] _ That's it, [Gb] but when you try to do it you have to the B and E strings stay open the whole song
never cut _
But the other [A] four E A D and G are up at five and then they're up at seven
_ [D] _ But if you try it [Gb] like that
You know finger it like you normally would finger chords
It is tough to bar across four
[A] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _
So instead of doing like [B] that, which is hard to get all four especially that G string you get three of them easily
but to get the the G and
Still leave the B and E open like this.
It's tough.
So I was like, okay
I'll try like that do the Ritchie Havens over the top thing and
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ That makes a lot more sense because [Ab] you can easily get just put your thumb across all four of [D] those
_ _ [N] And then so I was looking up
_ Looking at the videos I'm not to get the right one to play along with
To make sure they're all the same because if on YouTube, you know
Some of the tunes and I run into this with some of the beatle ones I used to do
People upload them but their uploads the speed of the upload is off so that changes the picture
So you might be off by half a [D] step
Just because somebody's video that they loaded on YouTube the one that I [G] play along with doesn't match
But so I found a live one thinking.
Okay.
Well, that's got to be in tune, right?
Well, I sure enough I see Kevin he's fretting just like this.
So this is the way
_ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ [D] _ [Bb] There's the logical way to play so let's try this midnight special version
_ _ _ _ [Bb]
Here's our real speed wagon in a new single time for me to [D] fly _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ _
[D] _ _ [D] _ _ [G] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ Oh _
[D] _ _ _ [A] _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ [D] _ _ [A] _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ [D] _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ Oh
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [D] Yeah
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [A] Oh
_ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ So again if you're
[Ebm] Trying to play an open tuning song
Get a simple one under your belt so you can at least put on your resume.
I can play an open to me _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
It actually is I play it through twice now one to get the rhythm down of it want to record it but _ _
_ Not doing a whole lot of full fretting with your thumb in it, it's not one that you want to play ten times
[B] _ _ [Bb] I put my thumb over the top a lot, but really it's only that part.
It's not the [D] whole
_ [A] _ _ [G] _
_ [D] after [Bb] ten minutes
[D] your field _
