We're Toad the Wetsprocket, you're not, and this is Naked Cafe [G] on VH1.
[D] [Em]
Good [G] evening and [D] welcome to the Toad Radio [E] Network.
I'm here [D] for the Columbia Records Radio Hour.
Toad Wetsprocket.
Toad Wetsprocket.
Wetsprocket.
Toad the [G] Wetsprocket.
Sit back, we'll be right back with a whole load of [A] Toad right after these messages.
[D] By [G]
the first [N] time we performed together in public was at a little talent night at a bar called Joe's 2 in Santa Barbara, California.
We lost.
That's what drove us to continue.
We literally got [Am] to work for Peanuts, which was cool.
We [B] were too young to drink and [F] they paid the other bands in free beer, so it was actually nice.
We didn't [A#] lose either at all.
[C] All I want [Am] is to feel this way, [Dm] be this close, [G] feel this day.
None of us came up with the [A] name, but I had this Monty Python [D] record I was a kid that had a skit on it.
[E] Toad the Wetsprocket was a [N] silly band name.
It just sounded kind of funny and it would be good to see it in [C] print, or at least that's what we thought, and we [D] never changed [Am] it, so now it sucks.
It sets us apart from the bands [C] because the bands with good names.
Yeah, like Fudge Tunnel.
[D]
[Gm] [C] [Am]
The transition from completely non-paying.
[A#] It would go up to where [D] the goal would be to buy a six pack with it and then we'd have to throw [Am] in for more, and we finally got up to we could buy an [D] entire case of beer.
Beer was cheaper then.
[G] Now what's great is that we play a gig [C] and now we can drink beer on that for the rest of the week.
[D] Smile wide many times and smile back once.
[A] Past [Am] traffic [C#] lights, [C] smoke off.
The best [E] thing about touring is getting to play golf in the daytime.
[A] We tour really constantly and [C#m] it's [C]
built up [G#] in a very personal way.
The [G] worst was the mall in Germany.
Young [Dm] songwriters conference thing.
They said, okay, we'll do it, so all of a sudden we're [G] acoustic in the middle of the mall [D] somewhere in the middle of Germany with like three kids going.

This is Perky.
[N] On our first tour ever, [F#] he came out with us and [C#] he guided us and we've developed a small little religion regarding Perky.
[F#] He's perfect in every way.
[C#] He's peaceful and we love him and he loves us.

[C] No, you missed [F#] the back flip.
No, that's must see TV.
[G] We really kind of wanted to concentrate on atmosphere when we were [D] making this record.
So we went away to a residential [A#] studio where [G] [E] we would play every night.
[D] We set up the room, the main room with [Am] all four of [A] us playing together and we had all these candles [A#] around and lava lamps [D] and stuff.
We recorded totally in the dark and just really got a lot of [A] atmosphere going and [D] tried to create a [Dm] scene where the songs can just [A] sort of blow out of us.

[F] There's a guy watching [D] us up there.
Who is he?
That's a good question.
That is a good question.
We're a pretty accidental band in general.
I think we're proof that things come out of [G] chaos.
The whole basis of this is [D] where [A#] it began and where it still is.
I have pretty simple needs.
As [A] long as I have a golf course and [Dm] a mountain to go snowboarding on.
[A] 20 years from now, I think that all of these
