I had so much fun tonight coming out here like I said earlier took me down
with seeing that kid play that steel guitar.
[A] That is so refreshing to see a young
teenage kid wanting to learn to play the steel guitar.
That's one of the most
beautiful instruments in the history of this music and very very dear and
important to me.
I love being encouraging to seeing kids want to learn and love
this music like people took me under their wing when I was young and were
kind to me and let me.
I was actually a steel guitar player for a short time.
I was about 18.
I was just a couple years older than that kid Noah but I bought a steel
guitar and I loved the sound of it but it didn't it didn't fit in [Cm] my hands and
we I finally got rid of it.
All my friends called it a mercy selling.
[G] They would say how do you know Vince's steel is out of tune?
I'd say how?
They said the bar is moving.
Anyway I thought how sweet it would be to maybe
ask Pedal Steel Noah to come out and play a [N] song with us tonight.
[C] This song was recorded back in 1964 and to me it's one of the
pillar songs of the history of this music.
It was recorded by the great Buck
Owens back in 1964 and a big hit for him.
I recorded a version of this with the
great steel guitar player Paul Franklin some years back on a record called
Bakersfield where we honored the music of Buck Owens and also Merle Haggard.
I don't believe Noah was born when this song came out.
I don't know if he's ever
played it but he's about to tonight [G] and we're gonna have fun and try to play
this song for you.
I remember when I was a kid the Buck Owens rant shows you guys
remember those shows where they they would come on every Saturday and Don
Rich and Tom Bromley and all those guys with Willie Cantu and gosh I can't
remember them all and [A] I was glued to that television man every Saturday
trying to figure out what in the hell they were doing.
[F] Come to [G] find out
that TV show was taped in Oklahoma City where I'm from.
I had no idea my heroes
were just down the street taping these TV shows or I'd have been down there
bugging the [Cm] hell out of them you know.
But anyway wound up being friends with
Buck and [G] this was one of the first songs Paul and I recorded on that Bakersfield
record so enjoy this kid and old Tommy [C] on this one.
[G] Together [C] again
