It's creepy.

_ But New Hampshire's cool.
I love New Hampshire. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ I mean, how many places would have to have a state [E] medal institution on a fruit street? _
_ [N] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _
My [N] _ career, my musical career, actually started at the Concord State Hospital.
_ My mother donated me.
_ _ I was given stuff to the state hospital.
It was kind of a family joke.
I couldn't find something.
Where's the dog mom gave me to the state hospital?
_ And she gave me to [F] the state hospital.
Somebody down there was saying, [Gb] you know, we've got a lot of musicians in the inmate [N] population.
How much do you want a band?
[Abm] And my mom's little eyes [N] said, am I going to?
_ _ Next thing I know, I'm 16 years old and I'm headed down to the state hospital with a cardboard guitar case.
Organizing a band of inmates. _ _
It was a strange experience.
I mean, at that age, you don't know what's weird. _
_ Everything seems weird, but you try to act cool.
Oh yeah, I've seen that before.
[Bb] But this was very strange.
This was genuinely weird.
It was partly because they had this thing going on [N] then.
I don't know if they still do.
They had this thing where nobody wore uniforms.
They felt uniforms were demeaning to somebody.
And so [Bb] the orderlies and the doctors and the patients all just wore street clothes.
[N] _ It _ was very disorienting.
_ Talking [Bm] to somebody and you couldn't [N] figure out where they were in the scheme of things.
_ And you try to figure it out.
And it was a habit that you then take out on the street with you afterwards.
_ Because the people outside were much more_
_ _ But it _
_ _ [Gb] was exacerbated by [Eb] the fact that they had this [Bb] thing going on where
patients would sometimes get better, but they'd [D] have no place to go home to.
So they couldn't believe it.
[N] So they'd make their orders. _
_ And meanwhile, the staff [Bb] was overworked and stressed out and sometimes became [N] patients.
_ _ _ So this was her medically sealed _ mental health terrarium.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ It was in this context that I formed my first band.
_ [D] _ And it's [Ab]
probably_
It doesn't mean a [Bb] thing.
It's just coincidence.
But it's a chance of a habit.
All the [N] musicians were in the forensics wing.
_ Creepily insane.
I had an expert ear in lead guitar. _ _
Marcia's underused.
Nobody knew what the bass player was in for because he sold out.
He sold out of school.
_ _ _ And sold out of the same songs that I used to play.
_ _ _ [D] Looking _
[E] _ back on it now, it was a formative experience.
And they weren't really all that different from [A] the other [Dm] bands that I've had. _ _
_ _ I want to thank you guys for coming out again.

[D] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ I [D] _ _ _ was younger and in my school.
I [G] walked the mountains.

_ _ [G] _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ [B] _

To the Mary Mack county. _
[G] Find the grass.
That [D] is my grave. _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ So let the birds,
fly down the valley.
