[G] [D] I'm going to close out with my New Hampshire song.
[E]
New Hampshire, [D] New Hampshire, New Hampshire, New Hampshire, New [B] Hampshire.
[Bb] I'm still upset about the old man in the [B] mountain.
It's creepy.
[G]
[Bb] It's creepy to not live in geological [N] nature.
[A]
[D]
But New Hampshire's cool.
I love New Hampshire.
I mean, how many places would have to have a state [E] medal institution on a fruit street?
[N] [D]
My [N] career, my musical career, actually started at the Concord State Hospital.
My mother donated me.
I was given stuff to the state hospital.
It was kind of a family joke.
I couldn't find something.
Where's the dog mom gave me to the state hospital?
And she gave me to [F] the state hospital.
Somebody down there was saying, [Gb] you know, we've got a lot of musicians in the inmate [N] population.
How much do you want a band?
[Abm] And my mom's little eyes [N] said, am I going to?
Next thing I know, I'm 16 years old and I'm headed down to the state hospital with a cardboard guitar case.
Organizing a band of inmates.
It was a strange experience.
I mean, at that age, you don't know what's weird.
Everything seems weird, but you try to act cool.
Oh yeah, I've seen that before.
[Bb] But this was very strange.
This was genuinely weird.
It was partly because they had this thing going on [N] then.
I don't know if they still do.
They had this thing where nobody wore uniforms.
They felt uniforms were demeaning to somebody.
And so [Bb] the orderlies and the doctors and the patients all just wore street clothes.
[N] It was very disorienting.
Talking [Bm] to somebody and you couldn't [N] figure out where they were in the scheme of things.
And you try to figure it out.
And it was a habit that you then take out on the street with you afterwards.
Because the people outside were much more
But it
[Gb] was exacerbated by [Eb] the fact that they had this [Bb] thing going on where
patients would sometimes get better, but they'd [D] have no place to go home to.
So they couldn't believe it.
[N] So they'd make their orders.
And meanwhile, the staff [Bb] was overworked and stressed out and sometimes became [N] patients.
So this was her medically sealed mental health terrarium.
It was in this context that I formed my first band.
[D] And it's [Ab]
probably
It doesn't mean a [Bb] thing.
It's just coincidence.
But it's a chance of a habit.
All the [N] musicians were in the forensics wing.
Creepily insane.
I had an expert ear in lead guitar.
Marcia's underused.
Nobody knew what the bass player was in for because he sold out.
He sold out of school.
And sold out of the same songs that I used to play.
[D] Looking
[E] back on it now, it was a formative experience.
And they weren't really all that different from [A] the other [Dm] bands that I've had.
I want to thank you guys for coming out again.
[N]
[D] [Cm] [G]
[D] [G]
[D] With notes.
[G] I [D] just found a week ago that I was [Cm] gone.
[G] I [D] was gone.
Way up north.
In the Mary Mack camp.
That's [C] my home.
[G] That's [D] my home.
[G]
[D] [G] I [D] was younger and in my school.
I [G] walked the mountains.
Made [D] a stumble.
It's the same about tomorrow.
I [G] didn't wish I was grown [D] and gone.
[G] [D]
[G] [B]
As I grew,
through the air [D] realm,
out [G] along the [D] open road.
There I learned [Gm] a real [Dm] more certain.
[G] It's truly said,
that's a [D] sign of storm.
[G]
[D] [G]
[D]
Now I'm a boat.
My dreams they wander.
[G] Far away.
In [D] yesterday.
I'm going home.
To the Mary Mack county.
[G] Find the grass.
That [D] is my grave.
[G] [D]
[G] [D] So let the birds,
fly down the valley.
You [G] let the stars roam [D] on the sea.
And [G] I will carve,
with [D] a rainbow of circles.
[G] Stony Mountain,
[D] that's home to me.
[G] Stony Mountain,
that's [D] home to me.
[G] Stony Mountain,
that's [D] home to me.
