This is Gospel Music Today and it's a great pleasure to be talking to an old friend of
ours.
This is Tony Green of The Greens and Tony, welcome to Gospel Music Today.
Well, Ken, it's a blessing to be able to sit and chat with you for a while.
It's been a
long while since we've seen each other.
That's right.
[G] I can't believe the memory that some people have.
The Greens were the first,
when we lived in Rhode Island, The Greens were the first major [B] group that we had for a concert.
And we'd come to your home and had as good a stay as I ever had in my life.
Had a great
time.
That actually was one of our first trips, well I guess it was our first stop ever in
Rhode Island years ago.
And since then, oh, we've made so many friends and actually we
sing as much now in the Northeast as we do anywhere.
Praise the Lord.
Especially a lot
around New York City and the surrounding areas in Upper New York.
We sure do.
Now, The Greens at that time were Tony, Taranda, and you had [Fm] Donnie Henderson [Gm] with you.
My husband's traveling.
[G] Your brother had just [Db] recently gotten sick.
We've got a new lineup [F] now though.
We do.
The [Bbm] Greens currently [A] consist of course myself, [Fm] Tony, my wife Taranda, and a young
man by the name of [G] Jeff Snyder.
[Db] And Jeff, he and [Eb] his wife Melissa make their home in
[Ab] Johnson City, Tennessee.
[Abm] And we're blessed to have Jeff singing [F] the tenor part.
[Db] Great
man of God.
No pretense.
Just loves the [Ab] Lord.
[Bb] God's called his wife into a beautiful ministry,
taking care [Ab] of sick babies.
She's a pediatric [Fm] physician [Bb] there at East Tennessee [Ab] Hospital.
And we're glad to have him.
And then on the [Db] keyboards, doing the keyboards, driving the
bus, running the sound, [Ab] is John Michael Jeffrey from Salt Rock, West Virginia.
John's been
part of [Eb] our ministry a little over five [Bb] years as well.
So we're blessed.
We have a great
team.
Of course, Taranda and I, we have two children.
A four-year-old, Isabella Faith,
and then a one-year-old, and her name is Jocelyn Ruth.
[D] And a young lady by the name of [Db] Carrie
McClellan travels with us and takes care of the kids.
They go with us everywhere.
[A] That's quite a life.
That's a lot of dedication.
That's a lot of dedication.
But you know, we just [Em] thank the Lord.
We've had [B] a wonderful
journey and a great life.
The kids are able to see so many different [G] places across the
country and meet so many wonderful people.
So we're very blessed to be able to take our
kids with us.
You know, we really are.
Now, we don't, for people that know the Greens, we really don't want to let it go by without
asking how you're doing.
Well, thank you for asking.
Health-wise, I've been through a lot of storms.
Back in July
[B]
of 2007, [B] I went into complete kidney failure and wound up with surgery, putting a dialysis
tink off port in my tummy.
[Gm] So I do [Dm] the peritoneal dialysis, [G] [E] do the manual exchanges four times
a day, and I'm awaiting a kidney transplant.
And God willing, I'm hoping to do [G] a transplant
this coming August.
And I'm not going to be soon enough ready to get off these dialysis.
Praise the Lord for technology and modern [E] medicine where [G] [E]
transplantation has become
a really wonderful thing.
It's not a cure to kidney disease, but it's an alternative
than the dialysis.
So we bless the Lord for that.
And I've learned a lot about donation.
And the more and more that I find out and the
more I learn, the more I'm a real advocate that I would pray that everyone watching today
would consider being an organ donor.
Because God knows when you go to heaven, heaven don't
need your organs.
But it's amazing at what God has [A] allowed doctors to learn and God's
given them the knowledge through transplantation how that you can help [C] so many different people's
[A] lives through organ donation.
[Bm] So I'm kind of [C] one of the new [Dm] [G] poster people for Southern
Gospel Music, you [C] know, of trying to be an advocate and [Bb] share of how important [F] it is
to [Am] take time and sign your driver's [Dm] license and think about being an organ donor.
[A] I think a lot of [G] people don't realize how easy the process is to sign up for that.
Absolutely, you know, and [B] like I said, you [G] know, just [C] a couple of weeks ago there was
a tragedy there in [G] North Carolina.
But through that [C] tragedy there were four children at the
[F] Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte that were affected [F] that got a heart and got lungs
and [Dm] got a kidney.
[C] And through that one tragedy, though, four other [Dm] lives were spared.
So,
you know, [G] it's,
[C] there's, I can't [G] think of any [Am] reason as to why that people would not
[C] want to give the gift of life, you know.
So I just pray that you, that each and [D] everyone
watching today [C] would consider [F] being an organ donor.
Because like I said, heaven don't need
our organs.
Everything's perfect up [G] there.
Down here's where we need them.
That's right.
Tell me about the Greens' new CD.
Our new CD's [F] a CD called Far Down [G] the Road.
And we've been blessed to have a number one
hit [F] song off it, the song [C] Stand by the River.
Also another top five song that we did off
that CD [F] called We've Weathered Storms Before, [G] written by the great late [F] Dottie Rambo.
And
[G] another great [F] song called God is Singing Over [Dm] Me is a feature on [D] that CD.
And it's been
a great CD.
[Gm] Been a lot of wonderful songs and [G] a lot of great comments.
[C] And the Greens' website.
[G] Yes, please, anytime you [Abm] have time, go to our [Db] website.
It's www .thegreensgospel [Gb].com.
And you'll find our schedule and all that's happening with the [Eb] family and our online store as well.
Well, thank [Ab] you, Tony.
And of course, we're at the Mabee Center in [Eb] Tulsa, Oklahoma tonight.
And the things you had to say on [Gb] stage earlier [Gb] just offer [Bbm] so much hope and [Ab] inspiration.
[Db] We appreciate it.
Well, I appreciate that.
You know, it doesn't matter where we go, people are hurting.
And
we just bring [Fm] the message of hope, you know, that God's not mad at [Gb] anybody.
Everybody has
problems.
We just have to trust the [Fm] Lord and He'll see us through [Db] those problems in our
[Fm] life.
Christ is always the right answer.
[Eb] Tony, thank you [Ab] very much for talking to [Db] us on Gospel Music Today.

And of course, we're at the Mabee Center in [Eb] Tulsa, Oklahoma tonight.
And the things you had to say on [Gb] stage earlier [Gb] just offer [Bbm] so much hope and _ [Ab] inspiration.
[Eb] _ Tony, thank you [Ab] very much for talking to [Db] us on Gospel Music Today.
Thank you, Ken.
God bless you.
