[D] I'm going to get a little selfish if you don't mind.
This is a song that I wrote that was not intended
to be recorded by anybody.
Actually, Deb, we're kind of talking,
we've got a history going [N] back a long way.
We did a lot of fundraising.
I used to get involved in some of these fundraisers for,
you know, cancer research or MS or just different situations.
And as a songwriter, I felt kind of useless as a celebrity
at one of these things because we're not really celebrities.
Songwriters I'm talking about.
Now, Debra's had a recording career
and Wynn has a funny hat, but we're just not that funny.
It ain't that damn funny, no.
Well, it is when you're wearing it.
Depends on how you're looking at it.
It depends on what's coming out of the mouth under it.
It's usually something pretty funny.
But anyway, we're not really celebrities.
We're just songwriters, real lucky people that got a break
and everything, and when you get in a situation
where celebrity is an asset, it's kind of,
it leaves you feeling just a little bit helpless.
And in these fundraising situations,
I felt a little helpless because people were good enough
to invite me and ask me to share what I did with people,
but I didn't know, I'm there to raise money for a cause.
And I said, well, I don't know what I have to offer.
It took me the longest time to realize you got your music,
stupid, and what I did is I was [G] volunteering for about,
I don't know, 10 years [D] down at Vanderbilt
[Em] in the non-patient care [A] area, [F#] singing for patients,
[A] knowing that all I could ever expect to be for them
is a temporary distraction from their,
the seriousness of their issues.
[D] One day [Bm] I got in a situation that caused me
to write [A] this song.
As I said earlier, this has always been my therapy,
getting on my knees and playing.
And after [D] talking to this lady [G] on the 11th floor
of Vanderbilt, [D] I had to go home and do a lot of thinking
and a lot of soul searching.
This is a song I came up with.
And I'm gonna do this for Mark tonight
because Mark will get this.
Everybody won't get this.
That's why it won't be on the radio.
But Mark, I'm gonna do it for you.
I just met Mark tonight.
Got a little rundown on his past and stuff,
but real proud to meet you, Mark.
Here you go.
This is for you, buddy.
If tomorrow all my senses [G] faded into black,
[D] someone said, now take your pick.
Which [A] one do you want back?
You can either feel the things you [G] touch
or smell the world outside.
[E] Would you rather hear the [Em] ocean
[A] or see it with [Em] your eyes?
[C#]
[D] Touch, [G]
[A] I [D] said touch.
I can't think [A] of anything [D] that I would [G] miss as much
as [Em] touching you [E] and feeling [A] you.
[D] Touch.
I would know you're beautiful [G] if I never [D] saw your face.
Your kisses would be sweet as wine,
even without taste.
And I could feel you whisper,
[G]
even if I couldn't hear.
[Em] And I would miss your subtle scent.
[A] Still the [D] choice is clean.
[A] [D]
Touch, [G] [A] I [D] said touch.
[D] I can't [A] think of anything [D] that I would miss [G] as much
as [Em] touching you
[E] and feeling you.
[D] Touch.
[G] And there are only two things in this world
[A] I never want to lose.
[G] One would be my sense of touch.
[A] The other would be you. You.
[D]
[G] [A]
[D] No, I can't [A] think of anything that [D] I would miss [G] as much
[Em] as touching you [A]
and feeling you.
[Bm] Touch.
[D] [G] [E]
Touching you [Em] and [A] feeling [Am] you.
[D] Touch.
Thank you.
[E] You've always been one of [D#] my favorites.
