Hey, Gifted Hands family.
We are talking about Andre Crouch's popular song, Let the Church Say Amen.
And today we are in the key of D flat.
So our scale for D flat is [D#] 1, 2, [F] 3, [F#] 4, [A#] 5, 6, [C#] 7, 1, [C] 7, 6, [F#] 5, [F] 4, [D#] 3, [C#] 2.
Alright, so D flat has 5 [D#m] flats, D flat, E flat, [G#] G flat, [A#] A flat, and B flat.
[F#] So these 5 notes are the black [F] notes in D flat.
And then we have [C] F and C [N] as our white notes.
Alright, so what I'm going to do is kind of give you a beginner's approach to this song,
just the basic chords at the beginning.
And then at the very end of this tutorial, later on in the tutorial, I'm going to explain
some intermediate to advanced approaches and those extra passing chords that you heard
in the play through, all of those different gospel nuances that you hear.
I'm going to put all that stuff at the very end, but right now I just want to give you
the basic chords, basic structure.
Alright, so this song has 3 main sections.
We have a chorus, we have kind of like a verse or a chant, just Amen, Amen, Amen.
So the second part, we'll call it the verse.
And then we have the third part of the song, which is the bridge.
Alright, so those 3 main sections.
There's also an intro played in the song, but for the intro, they're just playing the
same thing as the chorus, just a smaller section of the chorus.
Okay?
So let's jump into some advanced or intermediate to advanced concepts that we can use to fluff
up this song.
But before I do, I got to go over the intro.
So for the intro, what they're [C#] doing is they're just playing
[A] For the intro, we're just playing [F#m]
God [C#] has spoken.
God has spoken.
[D#] [A#m]
Let [D#m] the church [F#] [G#] say Amen.
[C#] So that's [A] kind of what I'm doing for the intro.
God [C#] has spoken.
[D#] Let [F#] the church [G#] say [C#] Amen.
That's all that I'm doing for the intro, right?
But I do something [F] quick.
[Gm] [D#]
[C#] God has spoken.
I just kind of do that progression to take me into it.
So instead of jumping into
[A] [C#] God has spoken.
[E] I do
[F#m] God [C#] has spoken.
[F] So what that is, is your one chord as a dominant.
I'm just doing one, and I'm moving it down in half [C] steps.
Seven as a dominant chord, same voicing.
[B]
So the flat seven.
[C#]
[C] One, seven, [D#] flat seven.
All right?
[F] So [B]
[C#] that's what I'm doing.
And then I'm just taking out the root.
So instead of playing [B] these with the root, [C#] I just take the root note [F] out.
So it becomes this.
[E] [D#]
[F] One more time.
One.
[C] [C#] [F] One chord.
[E] Seven chord.
[C]
Rootless.
[D#] Flat [B] seven chord.
And then I'm playing this.
And this chord is played throughout the [A] song.
I know it's kind of ambiguous, [F#m] so let me play it like this.
This is what I'm playing.
Just the four chord.
This is the four chord, but it's played as a minor.
Not only is it played minor, it's a minor six.
So that's what that chord is.
[C#] But what's the four?
One, two, [F#] three.
G flat is the four of D flat.
So I [F#m] go to the four, make it minor.
G flat minor.
Then I add the major six.
One, two, three, four, [D#m] five, [F#m] six.
So that's this chord.
And what I'm doing is I'm just inverting it.
So I'm playing it like this so that the minor third is on the top.
So instead of having the four on the top, I have this, A on the top.
So [C#] what do we have?
[D] One, seven, [B] flat seven.
[F#m] Inverted minor four chord.
[C#] God has spoken.
Five.
Okay.
[D#] Two.
At [F#] the church.
Six, [C#] seven, one.
Then I do this movement.
[C#]
[F#] [C#] You hear that a lot in gospel, so.
[A#] [D] [A]
