Hey and we're [Eb] back it's Sunday afternoon at Cali Roost 2015 back in the interview
room.
My name is Irie Dole, your host of the most and we're here with Tony Ray
from Tribal Seeds.
How you doing?
Yeah I'm good thanks.
Thanks for having me.
Awesome set.
Appreciate it man.
Thank you.
Yeah that was awesome to be on that stage
in front of that crowd.
Yeah yes that was huge.
I had to take a panoramic with my
phone because it was so big.
Yeah man.
Yeah.
It's a blessing to be on that stage.
So you're the
keyboardist and singer?
Yeah backup singer.
Yeah and I gotta say it's
awesome to see how everybody works in the band.
You know real cohesive.
You got
the horns going and real impressive.
Real strong.
Thank you man.
Thanks.
Coming from San Diego and making a big impression on the world.
How did it all
start?
It started with myself and my brother back in 03.
We were both in high
school at the time and we like most bands do were jamming with friends in a
garage you know and we recorded a demo.
Myself and my brother we wanted to
pursue it as a career.
So we you know went for it and put out a demo and
started playing shows locally.
Got some band members and started in San Diego.
Spread to Southern California, LA area.
Then up and down Cali and then you know
eventually Revolution was the first band to take us out of Cali on a tour.
So you
know those are our brothers from long time.
Met those guys in Hawaii like eight
seven years ago something like that.
So yeah.
That's great and I know you've been
getting a lot of success with your albums 2008, 2009.
Both best on iTunes
reggae charts and even 2014 the representing album number one on
billboards iTunes and Amazon.
Yeah.
Steady incline man.
How did that all what do you
what do you attribute that success to?
That's hard work into the music you know
into the production of the music, the songs, the arrangements and my brother my
younger brother who's the lead singer you know he takes his time with the
lyrics you know it's you know so spiritual message with him it's a
militant message with him and you know he takes his time with it he puts a lot
of thought and you know it's not something that just happens you know
quickly for him you know he really likes to think about what he's gonna write and
sing out there and put out there so just hard work with the music.
And I noticed
all of your releases are independent and still up on the Billboard charts.
Have
you all ever been approached by a major label?
Not major label not so much you
know and that doesn't really interest us either.
We like being independent and
not having an answer to anyone or share any of what we work for with anyone you
know so we like staying independent.
Nice.
Well we're at Cali Roots 2015.
Have
you all performed here before?
Yeah yeah we actually got to perform the
first year at Cali Roots you know so it's awesome to see how much it's grown
and you know blessed to be a part of it.
Nice.
And when was the first time you
started seeing people sing along?
Because I noticed a lot of people singing your
song out in the crowd and just knowing all the breakdowns.
What was the first
time you were kind of shocked by wow people people know my lyrics and
everything?
There's a venue in San Diego called the World Beat Center in Balboa
Park and that's kind of our home that's where we played a lot of shows when we
first started so I think we started building our own our fan base in San
Diego in our hometown and that's where the crowd was screaming our lyrics and
that's when it really hit me like wow this is awesome you know just to be able
to create music and have people enjoy it and support us like this you know.
Yeah
yeah and it's awesome to see the Cali Roots scene on the rise.
I spent a lot
of time in Hawaii in Maui and we play your music on the radio you know people
request it people want to hear in the clubs even.
Awesome.
And where do you hope
to reach next with all this?
We really want to go to South America, Europe,
anywhere internationally that the music takes us you know it's a blessing to be
able to tour the States and you know but we really want to travel outside the
country now and hopefully we get to do that soon.
Nice and you've got the Summer
Smokeout tour coming up speaking of traveling.
Yeah yeah with our boys the
Expanders killing it right now they're about to drop a new album and a band
from LA called the Rise Roots that played I believe yesterday the Cali
Roots Festival.
Okay nice.
So yeah they're gonna be on tour with us and
we're stoked we're big fans of those bands and you know we're really stoked
for it.
Good.
And you know the makeup of Tribal Seeds right now is really
powerful because you have Ian Young and Gonzo with you both having their own
success.
Yeah yeah it's awesome you know to have those talented musicians with us
and they're both songwriters as well so they bring a lot to our sound both
studio and live show and you know blessed to have them.
Yeah because Gonzo we've been
playing in Maui for a while yeah even a big island I know he gets a lot of
requests out there yeah and Ian Young he's got a brand new kind of production
out and yeah I see his name all over the place.
Yeah yeah he's playing today too.
Okay yeah so you know it's hard-working guys in our band you know like they stay
on it.
Nice.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
So where can people keep up with all you guys
with your tour your new releases?
Tribalseeds.net is where you can get the
links to everything we got out there social media wise and so yeah.
