[D] [G] [E] Welcome back to Daytime.
Our next guests have made music a family affair.
The Trinity River Band is made up of Dad, Michael, Mom, Lisa, and their kids Sarah, Joshua, and Brianna.
Now they blend bluegrass, gospel, and country music, and since forming the band five years ago,
they've been touring and gathering fans, including us, all along the way.
Welcome to Daytime to both of you. Thank you.
So five years ago, [G] your lovely [N] daughter here said, I want to learn how to play guitar.
She did.
She did.
She came to me out of the clear blue, and I had played all my life,
all around her, obviously, and had taught a bunch of kids before, and she knew that.
And she said, Dad, I want to learn how.
And I have an opinion about children and learning musical instruments.
It's not something for the faint of heart to take on.
If children are presented the instrument, and then they take it, and they run with it,
and they practice on their own, and they show a love of it themselves, then they'll continue.
It'll become part of them.
Sarah did, obviously.
Which is what she did.
How did the whole family get together then?
Well, Sarah did so well.
A few years after that, I'd been playing guitar for about two or three years, I think, at that
point.
And I wasn't even playing bluegrass then.
I was doing praise band at my school and at my
church.
And one Christmas, I think Josh said he wanted to play banjo.
And so Dad bought him a
mandolin, and he was teaching him himself how to play fiddle.
Oh, my gosh.
And so that was our first configuration of him on fiddle, me on guitar.
And now we've switched it up a little bit.
Mom's on upright bass.
And so I'm playing mandolin now.
Oh, my goodness.
And so he's back on guitar.
So how many instruments together do you all know how to play?
When Brianna is on stage, we have five all at once.
That's fantastic.
She's not always on stage with, but Josh will play, he's actually three instruments himself.
He can play the upright bass.
He can play the dobro, which is another instrument, slide guitar.
It's just completely unfair.
Now, how is it traveling with your family?
Because you guys spend a lot of time on the road.
Actually, we do.
And I think it's because we're a family.
We get along so well.
I mean, obviously, there's times that we don't.
We get on each other's nerves, I think, pretty often.
Are you homeschooled?
I'm actually graduated.
Good for you.
Brianna and Josh, Josh will be graduating this year.
Good.
And so she is, she's homeschooled.
Oh, that's awesome.
So the family that plays together.
We [A] want to hear you play together.
[E] This is the Trinity River Band [Em] performing today.
