_ Hey, what's up guys this is Luke.
Today I'm gonna teach you how to play True Love Waits off the album A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead.
_ So they've played the song before on acoustic guitar.
[E] Sounds like this.
[C] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Gm] But this time they played it on kind of piano and
_ it's a little more like picking on guitar.
So
_ _ yeah, there's a verse and there's a chorus [G] and
_ there's some minor variations throughout the song, but it's pretty much the same thing the whole time.
So _ I'll show you how to play the verse first.
This is how it's gonna sound [C] and _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Am] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Ab] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _ then it [G] restarts.
[E] So how you're gonna play that is this first chord is this C major 7, but it's not the whole thing.
It's just three fingers.
So you take your index finger and put it on the third fret [C] fifth string.
[G] Your ring finger is gonna go on the fifth fret fourth string.
And your middle finger is gonna go on the fourth fret third string.
_ And then you're gonna pick this [C] chord like this. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [Bm] So what I'm doing is [C] I'm hitting the fifth string
then the fourth string
fifth string again, and [G] then the third [B] string and
_ you [G] just repeat that over and over again. _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ Now the second time through you can leave like a little pause in between the fifth string and the third string like [C] this. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Ab]
But you don't you don't have to it just happens sometimes throughout the song, but I think it works pretty well.
_ So yeah after that you're gonna we're gonna call this [C] one time through. _ _ _ _ _
[Em] So you're gonna play that seven times through and then on the eighth time you're gonna add your pinky onto the third string fifth fret [C] like this.
_ _ [E] So from the seventh to the eighth time it's gonna be like [C] this and _ _ _ _ _ _ [Am] then you switch to this chord. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] So what this chord is is we just left our pinky and our ring finger where they were and
then we're gonna put our middle finger on the sixth [A] string fifth fret and
[Gm] _ then it's the same picking pattern except that instead of the hitting the fifth string we're gonna hit the sixth string [A] now.
So [Am] and _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
then the last chord [G] is we're gonna take our index finger and we're gonna put it on the
_ fourth fret of the sixth string when we take our middle finger off and we're gonna [Ab] pick it the same way. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] And then you restart.
_ _ _ _ _ [G] So yeah, that's the verse
and now we'll do the chorus.
The chorus is gonna sound like [C] this. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Am] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[G] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
And it [D] restarts.
So what happened there was we're gonna play the first chord that we [G] played in the verse
_ but instead of adding our pinky on the eighth time around we're gonna add our pinky on the second [C] time around like this. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ And then we [E] keep our pinky on for the rest of the time that we do this chord and then we're gonna switch [G] to this
chord which was the same chord in the
_ the second chord of the the verse.
[Am] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ And then the third chord we're gonna take our index finger and put it on the third [G] fret of the sixth string like this. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _ _
_ _ [Gm] So yeah, that's pretty much the whole song.
You only play the verse through once and then you go to the verse and then the verse goes two times around.
_ _ Now yeah, some minor variations throughout the song are like basically whenever you add this pinky
[Cm] _ _ [Gm] like [E] the verse and the chorus are not [G] identical every time with [C] how you hear this note.
It might be like _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
sometimes you hear it come [G] in at different times, but it's still the same picking pattern [C] usually.
_ _ [Am] _ _ _
[C] And then for the [Ab] chorus,
the final chorus you can do this [G] at the end, the last chord and
[C] _ _ _ _
then you can slide up [Ab] your index finger one fret _ _
_ _ _ to end that chorus. _
[C] So yeah, that's pretty much the whole song.
I hope you have
