So this the song this heart of worship
This is this great song that we sang was written by Matt Redmond
And I think many of you have probably heard of him now the song heart of worship is probably one of the very first
Contemporary Christian songs written.
I mean, it's that old from the 90s
And so he did this on there
He was in his church in Watford England and in the church the pastor started feeling like the people weren't singing with their hearts anymore
They had a big worship team they had they're very modern and cutting-edge in their worship and he felt like something was missing
We're not doing it right anymore.
And so what he began to do was he announced to the church?
And he said guys [F#m] we're stopping
Minister team is going on leave [A] no more worship [B] leaders
Sound [E] system.
We're cutting it off.
We're not using [B] it air conditioning.
I didn't take away the air [F#m] condition
Some of you wish he [A] would
[B] They said we're not doing it.
We're gonna [E] come in church.
We're gonna sing acapella
He said because we're missing something we're [B] doing something and we don't he said we don't [F#m] have the heart of worship
[B] We have forgotten
why we gather together and sing these songs [F#m] and
[E] if you can imagine how [B] awkward it would be
coming to a church that had a full-blown [F#m] worship team and
You know just [E]
everything [B] cutting-edge at the time and then go down to nothing
And [F#m] singing acapella it was awkward for them
[B] but then they started getting into it and they kind of started getting back to the [F#m] basics and in the [E] heart of worship and they
Remembered why [B] they worship to begin with and so [E] eventually the pastor started reintroducing
[B] the worship leaders
instruments
Sound system [F#m] they brought the lights back in and they did it slowly [G#m] over time
[A] [B] but now the worship is [E] completely different because
[B] It was really
From the testimony of the people there [F#m] it was really coming from the heart [G#m] and it made a [A] difference
[B] And so shortly after [E] that Matt Redmond states that he went home and in his bedroom
And just sat down in one sitting and wrote that song that we sang right before the preaching
[B]
And he states that he was simply trying to capture the experience in that church what [F#m] happened in the life of those people
So he shared the song with his [A] pastor that same past
[B] The pastor when we got a [E] clue that in our worship service, that's amazing
So they started [B] singing it in their worship service
Then pretty soon other churches in their area [F#m] began to hear about this song that God was using
And they began asking for [A] permission to use the [B] song and it became part of their worship service
[E] And then it just grew and grew it grew from the UK came to the [G#m] United States
[B] This whole [G#m] I'm coming back to the heart of [F#m] worship song took on a life of its own
[A]
Pastors were [B] writing letters to Matt Redmond and [F#m] telling him
[F#] What the [E] experience of their church was having and how [B] people were coming back to the heart of worship [F#m]
now, don't worry
We're not [B] taking away instruments.
I'm not gonna ask you to sing acapella on the Sunday night
[F#m] We're not getting rid of the [G#m] sound system.
I want you to pause for just a minute
[B]
[F#m] Scott's gonna sing the verse in the course of that song.
I [A] want you to listen to just listen [B] don't sing [E] listen
[B]
[F#m] And I simply [B] come
[E] longing just to [B] bring
Something that's [F#m] a word that will bless your [B] heart
[F#m] I'll bring [E] you more than [B] a song
For a song [F#m] in itself is not [E] what you have [B] required
[F#m] I'm such much deeper [B] within
Through the way things [F#m] up here.
You're looking [E] into my [B] heart
[E] I'm [B] coming back to heart of worship
[F#m] Then it's all about you
[A] It's all about [B] you
Jesus [E] I'm sorry Lord for the [B] thing
[F#m] Then it's all about you
[C#m]
[A] It's all about [B] you
You [E] know, [B]
I mentioned a few moments ago [F#m] that in the book of Nehemiah we had [A] workers
[B] Watchers and then here we see
[E] worshippers
[B] Will never be good workers
Will never be good watchers until we're [F#m] good honest sincere
[A] worshippers who worship [B]
God
[E] Clean hands pure heart and a heart that desires [B] to worship
God will you pray with [F#m] me
