Hi, this is a supplement to a blog post that I'm writing on right hand techniques
and especially
For one tune that Jerry Reed wrote and recorded many many many years ago
Gosh back when I was first learning to play the guitar is one of the
one of the first songs I learned to play
but
it's called the claw and
I'm gonna talk about just one of the
Riffs in it and it's a one that goes like this
[A]
[N] And there's a few different ways of doing that
You know, it's probably more than a few.
There's probably a lot
but
I obsessed over that for a long while and what's the best way to do it and how does Jerry do it and of course
Anyway, I wanted to show you a couple of the subtle little
ways of going about
Different ways of going about picking and getting the same sound out of it.
I will in the blog post
I'll reference a couple of videos by
Chet and Jerry and [E] if you watch those videos real close you can see that Chet is
getting
That lick this way and he's using
All [N] three fingers and
[D#]
[A]
[D#] That's pretty much the [N] way I've been playing it for the last several years
I learned to play it not using learned to play it using just two fingers
[A]
[D] Think the way Jerry actually got it on the record
And if you watch the video that I'll be linking you can see it's probably a little [A] bit more like this
You
You see that he gets that kicker with the
Index finger in a couple of spots not just down there, but also up here
[E]
There's a couple [A#] ways of getting that that [F#m] note those [E] notes you can do it [F#] that way which I prefer or you can do it
[F#] Which makes it a little bit [A] easier for transitioning into the a part
[Em] If you're going to get the the G note open
Again the way Tommy Jones plays it is with [C#] the two fingers
[A]
I think I haven't studied that really really closely, but if you watch his video
He's using only two and it's a pretty close approximation to what he does
Again going back to the way [G#] Jerry originally
[A]
[N]
So I guess the what's the point is there one
I think the point is you can become too obsessed with fingering techniques
It's really really the best
Weeks for fingering I do think it's really important to spend time on getting good techniques
And I think you can obsess about them, and I have
And I think Richard is
Pretty much covers it for now
