Twin Temple - Interview Alexandra & Zachary James - Paris 2019 - Duke TV [FR-DE-ES-IT-RU Subs] chords
Start Jamming...
Hi, I'm Alexandra James.
I'm Zachary James.
And we are Twin Temple, and you are [Dm] watching Duke TV.
Hail [Em] Satan.
[Dm] [B]

[Dm]
[E] [Am]
2016 started it.
We [N] did a destruction ritual on the eve of Samhain and destroyed basically all our previous
incarnations and this was what the result of the spell was.
We use Satan as a symbol, not as evil, but of individualism, free will, creativity, a
rejection of the status quo, non-conformity.
To us, Satan's kind of like the ultimate adversary.
So we use Satan basically as a metaphor or a symbol to represent our desire to basically
burn down the old guard and move towards a more just and equal [F] society.
[Dm]
[Bb]
[C]
[F] [Dm]
I remember [Bb] the starry nightmares, [C] hanging on his jamb.
People [Dm] always ask, like, when did you become a Satanist?
Or how do I become a [Ab] Satanist?
You can't really become [Ebm] a [Gm] Satanist.
We feel [Cm] that we were born Satanists.
Throughout our [F] life, we discovered other philosophers or other writers [Bm] whose ideas resonated with
who we were at [Fm] a core level.
You can't really become someone who feels outside of society, [C] who feels like the highest
[N] exaltation is individualism or the self.
These are kind of like core values that we personally felt like we were born with.
Long-winded answer, that's how [G] we became evil.
[Cm]
For thousands of years, the profound sexual [Db] power we hold as women has been feared and violated.
[Gm] We're [N] basically pulling from a lot of different rituals that we already practice at home and
that we're familiar with.
We just wanted to bring those to the stage.
So they're not exactly like prescribed rituals that we would do at home, because honestly
those are like a little bit more boring.
So they're kind of like [Am]
re-appropriated for the stage.
[A] For example, our opening ritual, we kind of do a variation on the lesser banishing ritual
of the pentagram.
[G] We incorporate some Alexandrian [Db] magic with the chalice and [Gb] the thaumé.
[A] We [N] obviously have some satanic ritual woven in.
So it's kind of like a mix of different rituals that we already practice.
We've been [A] practicing magic for a long time, but we never really incorporated it in our public persona.
[N]
This next one goes out to someone who's very special to me, Lucifer.
[Ebm]
We [Gbm] do love scaring [G]
people.
I mean, scaring people is part of the fun, right?
Like we [N] purposefully dom the cloak of the adversary in order to kind of play with the
ideas of the witch or the [Gm] satanist or the devil worshiper.
Take me [Eb] to the mountain [F] of sin.
The [N] people who are scared of it and don't have an open mind enough to actually peer
beyond the so-called evil symbolism, the beauty is that serves as a blind.
It keeps people out who [Dbm] it's not meant for.
And that's kind of how we see it.
[G] Like our music is not for everyone.
We're not aiming to please everyone.
We're [N] really only aiming to please ourself.
And it's been kind of like a really amazing surprise that there's other people too who
enjoy what we do as well.
So, I mean, if people are scared of it, good.
They should be a little bit scared, you know.
[Ab]
It's our wedding day.
I couldn't be more happy.
[Fm]
Wear a lock and I swallow the key.
[Db] Did we intend to [N] purposely make it accessible?
Like, no, not necessarily.
It just [Ab] comes from our two loves, rock and roll and the devil.
Yeah.
We listen to all kinds of music, but on daily rotation is like classic rock and roll from
the 50s and 60s.
That's really like the largest section of our record collection and what we listen to the most.
There are [Gbm] bands that play vintage music, but obviously they're not bringing in [Eb] their
like [D] satanic, you know, visuals or philosophy into it or anything like that.
So we thought like maybe people who are into the oldies would be like, [Ab] ah, scared of it,
which kind of, kind of are.
