[D] [A] What's up guys?
Welcome to Rockin' the Country.
Today I'm doing one of the leading artists in Red Dirt, Outlaw Americana Country, Tyler Childers.
A lot of you have requested him.
I did one or two of his songs already, I think [E] one, and good response from it.
But in just following what's going on in country, in different parts of the country, Tyler Childers
and Jason Isbell are like two of the guys people are just looking to to keep the pop
country thing at bay.
But anyhow, a lot of you have requested Tyler, a lot of different songs too.
This one song has shown up recently in the comments section as requests and it's Follow
You to Virgie.
I'm going to do a live, this is a live one where he's performing live acoustically on
our vinyl sessions.
You'll see that.
This was requested by Dalton Brennan, Jake Jordan, JF, that's the screen name, JF, and Golden Littlefield.
So specifically, and if I missed anybody I'm sorry, but I'm going to be doing another Tyler
Childers video right after this one as well.
So tomorrow it'll be another Tyler one and then I'm going to hit up a couple of Jason
Isbell's just to feed the appetite.
Put it that way.
So all right, here we go with Tyler Childers, Follow You to Virgie.
So Follow You to Virgie.
[Bb]
[Eb]
[Bb] [Eb] I love these sets.
[Bb] Back before these calloused [F] hands and all this [Eb] work.
[Bb] We sit up [F] at the flats.
[Eb]
[Bb] Acting like we live forever.
[Eb]
[Bb] Getting high and skipping [Eb] class.
[Bb] Yeah, I reckon we [Eb] were heathens.
[Bb] Gotta be sometimes.
But in her eyes we [Eb] were saints.
[Bb] Now you're calling [Eb] all the boys home.
[Bb] Cause heaven's angels [Eb] carried her away.
[Bb] So I will follow you to [Eb] Virgie.
Although it hurts me [Bb] so to lay to rest this mountain [Eb] beauty.
That the Lord's called [Bb] home and I can see her up in [Eb] glory.
I can see [Bb] her through [F] the pines.
Who is this?
[Bb] [Eb] Man, he [Bb] picks nicely.
It's [Eb] crisp.
[Bb] Back when all us boys [Eb] were trying to
[Bb] make sense of all [Eb] these strings.
[Bb] I can see her in [Eb] the corner.
[Bb] Singing along.
All our [Eb] crazy dreams.
[Bb] So I will follow you to [Eb] Virgie.
Although it hurts me so [Bb] to lay to rest this mountain beauty.
[Eb] That the Lord's called home [Bb] and I can see her up in glory.
[Eb] I can see her through [F] the pines.
I still don't know who it is.
Is it his mother?
Very [Bb] popular teacher.
I will follow you to [Eb] Virgie.
Cause that's what us boys are [Bb] for.
To help you out when you get [Eb] weary.
And you can't go no [Bb] more.
Can't you see her up there [Eb] Cody?
I can see her through [F] the pines.
Same boys be good.
[Bb]
[Eb] [Bb] He's still got me guessing.
[Eb] [Bb]
Wow.
There's a mystery about it now.
Like so many people who have, who know who this is about.
Would look at me like, oh, you're so stupid.
How do you not know?
But there's like a mystery.
This, it sounds like it's about someone's mother.
But not necessarily.
Cause they didn't, he didn't say, at least from what I heard.
He didn't say who it was.
It could have been a beloved teacher.
It could have been a beloved community member.
Could have been a sister.
But I guess follow you to Virgie.
That's going to be the key.
And I don't know what Virgie is.
So, I mean, is that a place?
You know, it sounds like it, but maybe it's a colloquialism for a special place in heaven.
Or, you know, anyway, you guys will enlighten me.
I know that there'll be a bunch of comments.
So thank you for that.
I'm not rating this one.
I gotta know what Virgie is to know.
But some songs, I hear them and I'm like, I could get a beat on like where they are in the pantheon of songs that I've heard in my library, in my mind, of the thousands that I've heard.
But this is just too different.
So out of respect for the fact that it is about someone having died and I don't know who that person is.
I'm going to leave that one be and just leave it stand on its own merits.
Yeah, Tyler's an interesting cat.
It's clearly professional, clearly knows his craft.
And I know a lot of guitarists are self-taught.
I don't know if that's his case, but there was a nice riff in there.
What was very I mean, the sequences were very crisp, you know, almost like remind me just a little bit of Dickie Betts.
But there it is.
I mean, Tyler Childers follow you to Virgie.
So Dalton Brennan, Jake Jordan, J.F. and Golden Littlefield.
That was specifically for you.
I'm sure I'll see you in the comments as well.
Please go easy on me for not knowing exactly who this is about.
But I'll I'll know after you guys comment.
So and other folks.
So there it is, guys.
There's Tyler Childers.
Follow you to Virgie.
This is a dude who's on the cutting edge, essentially of keeping country country, not pop.
There it is.
All right.
Please subscribe if you haven't hit the like button if you're up for it.
And that'll be that.
All right, guys, have a great day.
See on another video.
Keep rocking the [D] country.
