We're at the Key West Songwriter [Gb] Festival.
[Gm]
You're right.
[B] The [Abm] good old Nashville shit show [Bb] down there happens.
[E]
[G] We realize we're all like, we're adults, but this is our spring break.
We're going to play nine shows in five days and not [Bb] remember any of it.
So [Em] when I went down there, this was I guess [Bb] three years ago now,
[Eb] I was down there [Bb] having a good time,
[B] and I decided at this point, I'd been doing that for about four [Bb] years by then,
[Dm] and I was like, man, every time I go down there, I stay until like Tuesday,
and it's just too long.
[F] I get back and I'm dead for three weeks.
They're trying to [Bb] recover, so [G] I was like, what I'm going to do is I'm going to get out of here on Sunday morning this year.
So Sunday morning came around and I slept right through my flight.
[Bb] I had so much fun on Saturday night.
And that's the only flight I've ever missed in my life, actually.
And I was really upset with myself because I consider myself a responsible person.
I didn't want to miss my flight.
So I was so upset about it, I did what any American would do.
I got re-drunk.
And so about one or two o'clock in the [F] afternoon, I was walking down [Bb] Duval Street,
[F] and all I was trying to do was stay on top of my flip flops.
That was my goal.
Left foot on the flop, [B] right foot [Bb] on the flip.
And as I [Eb] did that, I [F] heard out of this little bar, it was called the Lazy Iguana, or the Lazy Gecko, actually, the Lazy Gecko.
And a friend of mine was playing, the festival was still going on,
and as I walked by, she said, hey, y'all, that's Tyler Reed.
Tyler, why don't you come in and play some songs [Bb] for us?
And apparently that's what I did.
[Gm] I don't know how many [N] songs I played.
I played maybe three, four, five, who knows.
But all I could think [F] the whole time that I was playing these songs, there was this one guy sitting [G] at a table by himself.
This really tall, handsome fellow.
And he was staring right at me the whole time I played.
And I was like, why is this guy [F] staring at me?
Like, either I've got something [Bb] on my face, or he likes the songs, or it's Key West.
[Eb] [Bb] These are all very viable options.
So when I got done playing, [Cm] this same [Bb] fellow, said fellow, walks up to me and he said,
hey man, I really love your songs, and I was wondering, I'm making a new record,
and I don't have a record deal yet, but I was wondering if you'd go with me down to Mexico to write for my record.
And I was like, no.
[Eb]
[Bb] Very weird, you're asking a grown man to fly thousands of miles away with you,
and we just [Ab] met in [Eb] Key West.
[Bb] So he bought [G] me two shots of whiskey, and [Bb] I ended up in Mexico.
[Eb]
Pretty true.
And [Bb] on the third day of that trip in Mexico, we ended up writing this song.
I'm glad I went to Mexico, I'm glad I missed my flight.
[Bbm] Things aren't going right, just get drunk, screw up for a little while, and [Bb] work out.
We wrote this song the [B] last night we were in Punta Mina, [Bb] Mexico.
The tall, handsome fellow was a dude named Brett Young.
And now still one of my dear friends, I love him to death.
We wrote this song, and [B] we knew it was special the night we [Bb] wrote it,
but we didn't know how far it would take all of us on a really cool ride.
We ended up just winning [B] the BMI [Bb] Song of the Year for this a few weeks ago.
I can't count the times, [F] almost said it was on my mind.
But [Eb] I didn't, [F] [Eb]
[Bb] just the other day.
Wrote [F] down all the things I said, but [Eb] I couldn't, I just couldn't.
[Bb]
[Cm] Baby, I know that you've been [Eb] wondering,
[F]
[Cm] so here [F] goes nothing.
In case you didn't [Bb] know, baby, I'm [F] crazy about you.
And I would be [Gm] lying if [F] I said that
[Eb] I'd live this life without you.
[Bb] Even though I don't [F] tell you all the time,
[Gm] you had my heart [F] a long, long [Bb] time [Eb] ago.
[Fm] In case you [Bb] didn't know, the way you look tonight,
that [F] second glass of wine, [Bb]
that [Eb] day,
[Bb] there was something about that kiss,
[F] the girl that did me in, [Eb] got me thinking,
yeah, I'm thinking, [Bb]
[Cm] all the things that [Eb] I've been feeling.
[Bb]
[Cm] This time [F] you'll hear them.
In case you didn't [Bb] know, baby, I'm [F] crazy about you.
And I [Gm] would be lying if [F] I said that
[Bb] I'd live [Eb] this life without you.
[Bb] Even though I [F] don't tell you all the time,
[Gm] you had my heart [Fm] a long, long [Eb] time ago.
[F] In case you [Bb] didn't [Gm] know, you've got [Eb] all of me.
Yeah, I belong [Bb] to you.
You're my [F] everything.
In case you [Bb] didn't know, I'm crazy [F] about you.
[Gm] And I would be lying if [F] I said that [Bb] [Eb] I'd live this life without you.
[F]
[Bb] Even though I [F] don't tell you all the time,
[Gm] you had my heart [F] a long, long time [Eb] ago.
[F]
Yeah, [Gm] you had my [F] heart a long, long [Eb] time ago.
[Abm] In case you [Bb] didn't know, [F] no, no.
In case you [Gm] didn't know.
