Comparison will cripple and [Em] kill you.
for the love of the game.
[B] was around players as a teenager that basically, if you're not [G] flashy, you [E] suck.
play for like [B] church on a Sunday for 200 people and be feeling sick.
[Gb] like a bad place for me.
all, [Em] that's why I'm on your team.
they didn't know I'd only been playing for four years.
[A] is true, I thought I wanted to be a hairdresser.

Comparison will cripple and [Em] kill you.
_ I came [B] to fight for the love of the game.
I'll [G] stop at all, [Em] that's why I'm on your team.
I [B] was around players as a teenager that basically, if you're not [G] flashy, you [E] suck.
I would play for like [B] church on a Sunday for 200 people and be feeling sick.
Like, [G] it was like, it really had gotten to [Gb] like a bad place for me.
I'll [B] _ _ stop [G] at all, [Em] that's why I'm on your team.
I got into [A] Skillet [B] overcoming all these random obstacles.
Like, they didn't know I'd only been playing for four years.
[Gb] They didn't know I'd quit.
They [B] didn't know I didn't really want to play anymore.
It [A] is true, I thought I wanted to be a hairdresser.
There are two [E] rules.
[B] _
You [A] should be a yellow-eyed, golden-red-brown.
I think we're in a season [Bm] or a time where the internet [A] has been really bad for us as a culture.
[Ab] It's been even worse for the basement drummers because they feel very [Bb] powerful.
_ _ [C] _
_ [Ab] _ _ [F] _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _
[Ab] I call it the basement drummer [C] syndrome.
They're playing in their parents' basement, just killing it.
[Ab] I'm quick to pick [Eb] apart everyone else's playing because they [Bb] could do it better.
But [C] they have like, [Ab] you know what I mean, the worst attitude.
[C] No one's going to want you in their band.
You're horrible to be around and [Ab] you're really prideful.
So like, if you can't just be [Eb] a humble person [Bb] encouraging those around you,
[Ab] then why would people want you in their band for a start?
[Bb] _ _ _ [D] Early on for me, it was like, [C] oh wow, I'm so glad I didn't [G] let like fear and insecurity stop me from stepping into [Ab] this role.
Because [C] now I'm like, I've been touring the [G] world for 11 years and meeting [Ab] people from every [C] language
that [Bb] have sort of said how music [Cm] has helped them or reached [Ab] them in their darkest points.
[C] I just have learned that [F] drumming is not at all what I [C] once thought it was.
[Ab] It's a powerful [Eb] instrument.
I felt like I was [Bb] meant to do this.
_ [C] _
_ [Ab] _ _ [F] _ _ _ _ [C] _
_ [Cm] _ _ [C] _ _ [Cm] _ _ _

_ [G] I [N] can't hear you say pain!
[Eb] _ [C] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Cm] _ _ [C] The beginning years of Skillet, we walk on stage and you can [F] feel the disappointment [G] in the crowd
when they see [Gm] a girl sit behind the drums.
[Bb] It's like, even on YouTube and stuff, like I stopped [Cm] looking at YouTube over, I mean,
the first year of being in Skillet, I stopped.
I can't read the comment sections because [A] there's the basement drummers [Cm] talking about how [N] bad I am or she's okay for a [C] girl.
And I'm like, I can feel it.
I'm [Gm] like, it's a terrible feeling.
But it [Fm] is a beautiful feeling [G] when you feel that crowd [Dm] turn one song in and they're [Bb] like, oh, she can really play.
[F] You know, and it's like, it all [C] changes.
And there's something in you [Dm] that's like, I'm going to [Bb] prove you wrong because, [F] you know, it's such a stupid [C] stigma.
My [Dm] main goal when I'm playing is to connect [Bb] with the crowd.
[F] And it wasn't until I [C] started playing with Skillet and I was [Bb] meeting all these people that were like,
you know, I [G] was at your show and [Dm] I was addicted to drugs.
[Gm] I was going to kill [C] myself tonight.
But once I came [Gm] to that concert, it completely [C]
saved my [Dm] life.
I think it was honestly in the first few months of Skillet,
I'm [Bb] just realizing music is so [Bb] much bigger than [C] all the things I thought.
_ _ [G] _ _ [Am] _ _
[G] _ _ [C] _ _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _
[Dm] _ _ _ [C] [Bb] I just see that I [C] have a platform and I have [Db] people listening to me right now.
[A] Why not be even clearer?
Why not use the platform that's been given to me for a short [Bb] time to use it to reach people [F] in as many ways as possible?
[C] And so I kind of stepped out [Dm] into the Ledger project [Bb] out of faith, honestly.
[F] Like, I think that this [C] could be something that helps [Dm] shine light and hope and [Bb] just is an example of [F] something different.
You know, [C] I was touring for three months, [Bb] Ledger, jumping onto touring with Skillet [G] and Ledger.
And then like, [Dm] yeah, opening for my own band all summer.
[D] And now it's, yeah, it's just like whatever I can do to be as [Dm] faithful with what I've got right now.
I'm just like running and going [D] for it.
But I don't plan on leaving Skillet.
I just, [Bb] I'm enjoying all the different [Eb] avenues that are before me right now.
_ _ _ [Bb] _ [Eb] _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ _ 11 years on, [G] I'm still like, yeah, I'm really glad I went for this and I didn't decide to be a hairdresser.
