iTunes chart Vampire Weekend's new album Modern Vampire of the City is going to do pretty well in its debut [N] this week
I recently talked to Ezra and Rossum and separated them
newlywed game style to see how unlike [D] or alike their opinions on the new album are
[E] [F#]
[B] For this album you had the biggest break in between albums
Why was [E] it essential for you guys to have that [F#] amount of time off just to [G] have a personal life?
There's the mental health aspects of taking a little bit of time off
We spent a few months apart, but then we sort of slowly started coming together a few times a [C] week
So it didn't feel like [E] we had all [G] that much time off to be honest.
Do you wish you took a vacation?
I took some vacations before we started working on it
But then I was so crazy that I was like go somewhere and then it's in code
Stay an extra week and be like can't do it.
I went to India.
That was one thing that I did
That was important.
Were you able to do that trip without thinking?
I need to make another album.
Oh shit.
Yes
Yeah, definitely.
I didn't know how to act
What do people do on vacation like sitting on the beach I really didn't know but I guess that's part of growing up is learning
how to sit [E] on the beach
What [B] [F#] was [B] the toughest [G] part about putting together this album on this album, I think we needed to learn how [Am] to write songs
Which sounds crazy [G] given that we're a real band
[Am] Occasionally, we just hit a dry spell [G] for a few weeks
Which is kind of scary if your [Am] job is supposed to be knowing how to write songs [G] No
That's not really true because that that's only one side of the story there [C#] are other times
Where [D#m] we wrote songs more quickly than we ever [B] had before and [C#m] those are some of the best songs we've ever written and they were
Easy to write even words like [C] working on a mix of a song
[G] They play it back and [F] we don't like the way it sounds [Am] people like physically.
[C] We're just like
[G] No, nobody can just be like, okay
[G#m] [C#m] [B]
[F#] This is kind of [D] like the rapid-fire Okay
Yeah, who in the band would win at beer pong CT is the band athlete I choose [D] bail
Who in the band would you let date your [A] sister if you had one?
[G] [G#] I do have a sister and I [D] wouldn't let anybody in the band date her fail
Who's most likely to [G] be left behind in a city or [A] a venue?
The only time I [G] ever heard of somebody in the band [A] already being at the airport in space and [G] missing a flight was Ross I'm
[F#] Ezra well, yeah once but that wasn't [G#] yeah
That was because I was driving [G] there late who would have the [A] license plate trouble.
Can I choose myself?
I'm gonna say bear for that [Gm] one
Cuz [C#m] bail I feel like you know, he'd probably [D] be driving like a nice station wagon.
So people are like, oh look at [D] this guy
He's a dad or something, but then he puts a trouble.
[A] It's like, you know, watch [G] out for me.
I'm a bad boy
[A] I want this album to [D] be enjoyed [B] universally beloved
