Yeah, my name is Rick Holmstrom and I'm playing with Mavis Staples.
I've [Abm] been [Eb] with her [B] for a little over 11 years [Ebm] now.
Well, I [B] played a lot of blues coming up and I [E] toured with a lot of unknown blues people
before I got with Mavis and [Eb] I [B] just love, I've always had a soft spot [Db] in my heart for [B] these
telecaster, nocaster, broadcaster, whatever [Db] you want to call them.
I have a [B] 53 with me today that I played on the show, but it's [Gbm] really cool to play a [Bm] nocaster here.
[Ebm] [Bm] And, [Abm] [Gb] let me turn the [Abm] tremolo up real quick.

[A] nobody's fault but mine.
It's an old blues gospel thing that Pop Staples, Mavis' dad, used to play.
I played it a little bit in the style of Pops.
[N] You can just do anything on it.
I played a lot of hollow body, big Gibsons and harmonies and stuff when I was coming
up playing traditional blues.
We had an upright bass and piano and big hollow body guitars.
When I got with Mavis, because we fly so much and because we go anywhere from that old type
of blues influenced music all the way up to like Curtis Mayfield's soul music and rock
music mixed all together, the telecaster is just perfect.
You think Steve Cropper, Curtis, so many great players, so many styles that you can do with
it and it's really suited for making your own sound out of it.
If I pick up a Strat, which is a great guitar, it just sounds like a Strat all the time.
It's hard to get away from the iconic Jimi Hendrix's and Stevie Ray Vaughan's and Buddy
Holly's and all that played those guitars.
Telecaster, I feel a little bit more like I can get my own.
