Start Jamming...
Hey everybody, this is Joey Jordison.
I'm Kaelin Chase.
We're from Vimik and you're watching Loudwire
Hey everyone, Grant from Loudwire here, [G] and we're here with Vimik here at Chicago Open Air
Thank you guys so much for giving me some of your time.
Glad to be here.
Thank you
It's an exciting time for you guys being on tours like this and [F] we're all anticipating the new record Open Your Omen
Is it still gonna be called [Gm] that?
Yes, it is.
Yep, same title.
Cool.
I know [G] that a
2017 release date was originally [Bb] hoped for.
Is that still gonna happen?
[G] It's definitely gonna happen this year
We can't give the exact date out because we're working all the you know
The nonsense out with the finishing of it, but it's it's gonna be out this year and everyone will [Gm] enjoy it very much
We're gonna make a [G] little couple adjustments on release dates to make sure it maximizes [Eb] exactly what we want to do with the touring
So right [G] now touring is the most optimal thing that we're [F] doing right now to make sure we set up the record
[Eb] So the anticipation will be a little better.
We [G] went through a remix and everything and the [D] record sounds awesome, man
We can't wait to get it out.
So it's gonna be really cool.
Great.
I know that you're active with Sinsanum as well
How are you balancing the two [Cm] acts?
Basically, it's just a great [Gm] communication between the two bands
Everyone knows, you know, there's other other guys in [G] the band that do other projects as well
But [C] when it when it comes time, you know and a great tour and [G] opportunities, you know present themselves
If you're gonna do two bands, you got to have respect, [Cm] you know for each other and realize like, you know
How [G] you're gonna balance it out?
So as far as like, you know both bands, you know
I'm just glad to be out here promoting Vimik right now our records [Gm] coming out on stuff with Sinsanum
We can't wait to get out and tour either and you know when the [Dm] time is right, it's gonna be right, you know
And here's the thing.
It's like [G] even if like I have off time, you know, it's you know
It's saying it once gone we go out like I don't I don't even care about time off
Just just keep going, you know, [Gm] so but yeah since a it was gonna be on tour soon.
Yeah, cool
I know that you've [G] been saying that with since a and if you want to do a [D] really elaborate stage show like [F] something really insane
You know when it [G] comes to Vimik, what do you think?
[E] The live show will eventually [G] grow to become?
Right now, you know, it's kind of we're bare-bones
Which I like a lot because [Eb] it really showcases the communication between the members of the band
[F] Exactly how we're getting out to the fans where we [Cm] don't need a lot of stuff, you know, we don't need it right now
I really like to not have any distractions
It's [G] just us you got our our banners or scrims and you're seeing the band for real and like that's what we're trying to portray
Right now I actually want trebuchets [F] on stage.
I want to hurl grand [D] pianos out of the audience
You [Gm] know, we'll sign an assumption of risk laws
I want I [G] want there to be just so much splendor that we're completely forget what we're here for and it's just nothing but
Distraction [Ab] no, I'm kidding.
I'm mostly kidding.
I'm not kidding
So what do you think you guys will be doing for touring?
Because [N] I know a lot of people are gonna want to see Vimik live.
Do you have any touring plans coming up soon?
We have some stuff that's being booked right now
We can't get specific which is [Ab] great because I love just saying that have you to everybody
[Eb] But we we're gonna be out a lot the end of this year.
We're gonna be doing stuff all through [Ab] next year
we got touring wish [Gb] lists, you know bands we want to play with and
[G] We're hoping that we're gonna get to hook up with all [Ab] those bands, you know, selfishly, of course
What is anyone confirmed yet?
I know you don't want to name names.
We can't yeah, you can't name [G] names yet
There's there's a lot of you know, [N] I could lie.
I just invent something
All right.
We're touring with the Virgin [Bb] prunes
As soon as [G] it's out you guys everyone's gonna know but we got to [Db] finalize everything
We got [G] a lot of really cool things coming, all right, well obviously, you know, everybody knows Joey's a very
[F] Extensive musical lineage it I want to hear more about your musical lineage
[Eb] I think the first big thing I did was with corn [F] as the background vocalist percussion
Keyboard guitars I joined them in 2006 and Joey actually joined in 2007, which is where we met.
That's [N] right
So I did that for about three years Joey was in there in 2007
that was our [Eb] favorite favorite time for me and as [Ab] far as the band and we and we struck a [Cm] friendship and we always used to
[Ab] Joke but then not really joke that we wanted to do a band together and [Eb] it took us a decade because we know we had
things to do
[Ab] But yeah, that was that was the big thing
and then after that I went to Hollywood [Cm] and started teaching I was teaching music and
Just doing [Bb] production gigs and he called me up and said [G] hey, do you want to be in a band before we finish bad?
Yes
Yes, I do.
[Gb] Yes.
Yes is the correct answer.
I want to play with my best friend.
Yes, I do very much
It was a no-brainer, but I have to say honestly [Eb] and Caitlin knows this it was like and all the guys in the band
I'm like, I know the [Abm] guy I know the guy that we need and it was one of the hardest [Gb] decisions
I made because one of my best friends and I [D] didn't want not want to disappoint him whatsoever
As [G] I'm like finally I was just like I know the guy and I just [Db] gave him a call he came in sent him some
[D] Songs put in the studio demoed in and like killer
It was perfect.
[G] So I know that
Joey [Eb] with your career you've dabbled with all different kinds of music some real extreme stuff
Some stuff that's more rock based, you know [Gm] murder dolls stuff like that
What can people expect the sound [Ab] of mimic to be once they finally [Eb] get to listen to this record?
The best thing about this is there's no limits or there's no boundaries about what we want to [Ab] do
The thing is, you know, we keep our music open-ended enough
It will always [F] be metal and it will always be extreme and hard
But and when I say extreme at a lot of times that has to that comes along with
[C] Melodies as well or or different, you know [Bb] styles of music that we incorporate within
Our metal roots, so there's not a [Eb] necessary like formula, you [Ab] know
We don't just stick to [Fm] like one thing
But it will all like once we get together
[Bb] We all understand each other and it [G] always will come back to be in the vimic sound no matter what we will never release anything
That does not represent the band properly
