Vocal Coach REACTS TO DIANA Ankudinova Wicked Game chords
Jam Along & Learn...
Hello, welcome, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, wherever you are.
This is the Vocal Lexicon.
My name is Frank.
I'm a professional [Ab] vocal coach.
So today I have a request and [Db] I'll just read it out.
He says here, you are one of the three vocal coaches with Tara Simon and Rashid Hayek,
who perfectly explains the technique of singing.
[Ab] Thank you.
I beg you to analyze the performance of Diana Ankudinova, song title is Wicked Game.
This phenomenon, all [B] her [Abm] performances is inaccessible to my understanding.
This must be some special singer.
[Am] Thank you very much for [E] the comments.
And yes, I'm going to [Ab] do it right now.
And hoping that I can help you.
At the end of the video, [Gb] I'll be able to maybe [E] answer your [N] question on what kind of
technique she used, what [Gm] kind of things [Ab] she's doing to make her sound the way she does.
All right.
[E] So let's get on with this.
[N] I'm sure I have the right video.
[Ebm]
[Eb] [Eb] [Abm] [Bb]
[Ab]
[Eb] [Db]
[Ab] [C]
[Ab] [Eb] [Ebm]
You are pretty correct.
Already I can sense or hear some uniqueness in the way she delivers her singing.
First off, she started with whispering, just like [E] talking.
You know, so that's like falsetto.
Falsetto is a very airy sound and you can hear her dropping in and out from [Ab] this deep
tone to a lighter tone.
And I'll explain that shortly.
[Cm]
[F] [Eb]
[Ab] [Bb]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Ab]
[Ebm] Okay, [C] I'll explain it now.
When her tone gets deep, she kind of pushes [E] the larynx down to get that tone.
It's sort of the same thing that will happen when you yawn.
You can hear it when I go
[Eb] So when the larynx goes down, the voice box, that's where you find the vocal cords and
all the muscles that coordinate [C] singing.
So when it goes down, you get that tone.
And then she comes back up neutral to actually get her normal talking tone.
[Gb] So that's why [Ebm] she dips in and out of this deep range and the normal [Fm] range.
[N] Normal tone rather.
And then she uses some style called vocal fry.
To add some sort of emotion.
It's very well mastered.
She's mastered it.
So that's why it sounds so [Ebm] smooth and cool.
[Ab] [Ab]
[Fm] Boss!
[F] [Ebm]
[Ab]
[Ebm]
[Eb]
[Eb] [Ebm]
[N] Wait a minute.
How can a lady have a voice like this?
It's a manufactured voice, no doubt.
Alright?
But how can you maintain that for this long?
She's still going on and on.
How can a lady have a voice like that?
Wow!
I can tell you right now, [Em] I've never heard anything like this.
She's the only one that sounds like this right now.
[Ebm] So she's a very unique singer.
[Eb] [Ab] [Eb]
[Ebm]
[Eb]
[Ebm]
[Bbm] [Eb] [Ab] [Eb]
[Ebm]
[Bbm] My goodness!
[C] I'll give you an example of somebody that sounds like this.
[B] Toni Braxton.
Alright?
Especially in their chest voice, they can sing with this kind of deep tone for long.
[C] But how long is the deepest I've ever heard?
I don't know.
I think she's practiced a lot.
[Ab] She's so used to it.
[Db] And that's why she sounds like this.
It's easy for her to do.
A manufactured [E] voice is not something you can sustain for a [Ab] really long time.
But she does it [Db] effortlessly.
[Ab]
[Bb] [Eb]
[Ebm] [Db]
[Ab]
[Eb] [Db]
[Bb]
I've never [E] heard anything like this before.
You are right.
You are right.
I can see where you're coming from.
I can [Ab] see what you mean.
I can hear what you mean.
[Ebm] [Db]
[Bb] [Ab]
[Eb] [Db]
[Ab]
[Eb]
[Gb] I'm truly amazed.
And then she goes back to the vocal fry.
A kind of mixture of talking and singing.
You know, over here.
Back to her chest voice.
And she has a good pitch.
She's good with her pitch control.
[Db] No one can save [Ab] me but [N] you.
[Ab] Wow!
Let's keep it there.
[Db] No [Fm] one can save me but you.
Wow!
What a phenomenon.
Like you said.
Wow!
Wow!
Wow!
Honestly, I am amazed.
I am amazed.
[A] And I think I've said all I need to say.
Some singers just leave you speechless.
[Ab] So there we are.
We've taken a journey to [Em] Russia.
She's from Russia.
And [Eb] what a voice.
Never heard anything like this before.
