[C] [Dm] So this [Bb] album, Elm 2, compared to Blueprints, our [Dm] debut album, I feel like we just had more
of an opportunity to grow and mature as a band, [C] mature our sound, really find out who
we are and [Dm] the music that we like to play.
[Dm] First album talks about how the world should be and what we want it to be and this album
is like the world kind [Bb] of smacks you in the face and this is how we cope with it and these
songs are [Am] about what we've been going through.
And a lot of the times when [F] it came around to writing lyrics for this album, they [Bb] weren't
necessarily in the happiest of times or at [F] a moment when you feel inspired to write [C] something
positive, it kind of worked the other way where it was [F] a low point or just where you
didn't feel [Dm] like you could get out of where you were and a [F] pen and paper was your only answer.
[Bb] And I feel like a lot of Deadweight is like therapeutic [C] in that sense where there's positivity
in the negativity and [F] just knowing that there's someone out there that feels the [Dm] same as you.
Our perspectives have changed in good and bad ways [Bb] so I think a lot of the record is
just a [C] different [Am] mindset than Blueprints was.
This album [F] was written [Bb] almost in the midst of hard times so it's a darker album.
It's like [F] you haven't gotten through it yet.
I think it's going to correlate a lot with people [C] who are in the middle of something
hard who haven't gotten through it yet so they can take inspiration from what we're
talking about in this album and they [Dm] can use it in their situations and it [F] will be helpful
to them I [Bb] hope.
Lyrically I think that Deadweight is [C] a new territory for our band.
We created a [F] very positive sense [Bb] for our band with Blueprints and that's something that
we always want [Am] to keep around and [F] always keep about our band.
But at the same time I [C] think that the number one goal of our band from day one was to be
real and to be relatable and to be [G] authentic.
Never give up [Gm] on the gods.
[Bb]
[G] You [Gm] two be there to fix how we were set for [Cm] too long to die.
[Ab]
[G] Go!
[E] [G] [Ab]
[Ab] [G] [Ab]
[D] [Dm] We were super honored on this album to be able to work with [Bb] Andrew Waite and Jeremy McKinnon again.
They did an incredible [C] job on our first record [Am] and it was a dream come true then and it's
a dream come true now.
They take us in and [Bb] they've said it before they really believe in the band.
They're like a super team.
It's kind of [F] crazy.
They work really well together.
They work really well individually [C] but together it's like a powerhouse and they just will
bring them ideas [F] for songs that we have or even just parts of songs [Dm] and seeing their
ideas come together with what we've already done is [Bb] really creating a lot of solutions
for our music and making it better than it could be just [C] on our own.
They're really amazing at their jobs of producing this [F] record and they think they've done a fantastic job.
The Day to Remember, The Ghost Inside, [Bb] and just Neck Deep, all the projects that they've
worked on, really, really [F] respect them and the music that they continue to [C] produce year after year.
When you're writing your own music it's a lot scarier.
You're overthinking things way more because it's [Dm] yours.
Kind of going over things with a fine tooth comb.
[Bb] With Wage War it's cool because they come in, they have their songs put together and
I can [C] just sit back and just be like, I [Am] think this is the strong part of this song.
Let's kind of accent that a little bit more.
[F] Make that the focal point.
It [Bb] helps that their material is great.
One of the things that I like [F] about Wage War is how adamant they are about quality [C] of everything
from the tones to the songs, all that stuff.
They have a [Dm] very defined vision of what they want and that makes my job a lot easier.
They suggest things [Bb] and I'll try to make their vision a reality.
It's so much easier when [C] somebody has it.
Being here at the Audio [C] Compound has been a really cool experience.
It's a real [F] studio.
It's got live rooms.
It's got real vocal tracking [Bb] booths.
It's a way bigger facility than we've ever had in the [F] past.
There's three studios, two live tracking rooms.
There's an apartment over here for bands to stay in.
Plus a lot of storage and also some other stuff here that we can't tell you about because
it's a [Dm] secret.
You have to come check it out for yourself.
But yeah, it's a cool [Bb] place.
Come do your record here.
You won't be disappointed.
Well we put a lot of time and effort into this record.
I [C] know that we are all [Am] individually excited about how it's turning out and the way it's coming along.
I think it's going to top our last [Bb] album.
We really cannot wait to see where it takes us as a band.
I [F] think that everyone here who has seen us work [C] in the past and seen what we've done
over this last year and enjoyed our music is going [F] to really appreciate what we've put
together [Dm] for everyone.
