Hello everybody we are back with the legendary Bishop.
See I call everybody
Bishop, Pastor, and Apostle just to big everybody up but you're actually a
Bishop.
I think so.
After all these years yeah.
Bishop Walter Hawkins how are you doing sir?
I'm doing great.
God is good.
And how is Mississippi treating you?
So far it's been
wonderful.
Now like I told Brother Richard they feed you down here don't they?
Oh
yeah.
Not only the Saints but I mean there's restaurants everywhere.
Listen I
wanted to ask you about your inspiration for coming up with these anointed songs.
Where do you get your inspiration from other than God?
I think that probably
when I think of songwriting most of the time I'm relating to a personal
experience that I've had and really asking God what is it that I'm supposed
to learn from whatever the you know that particular part of my journey is about.
And I think that you know as leaders, as songwriters, as preachers, teachers of the
gospel that we are forerunners not only of the glory of God but the trouble that
you know our lives entail.
That God wants to teach us something so that we can
have something with authority to say to the general public you know.
So what
would you say to the young people because back in the day it was
considered a sin to sing blues and all that in the church.
What do you say to
the young people who want to do gospel rap?
Gospel rap?
I don't have a
problem.
I think you know from a creative perspective I don't really care how the
message is housed as long as the message is there.
It does not necessarily
have to appeal to me in terms of a particular sound but there's an audience
out there that would be reached if the message is encased in a certain
kind of style or genre of music and that's okay you know.
What is what does
the future hold for Bishop Hawkins?
That's a good one.
I am in a place where
I think I am after a long long time I'm very much inspired to do some more
writing.
I'm celebrating the 10th of this month.
I'm celebrating surgery
from pancreatic cancer one year when I was told I wouldn't be here and so I'm
writing and thanking God for every day every breath that I take you know that
he's been just so gracious and so kind to me you know.
Well we thank God for
your healing and you've heard it right here first on That's Gospel the bishop
is gonna be writing [Gb] again.
