[B] Hi, [Db] [E]

[N]
my name is Jamie Humphries and I played guitar
in the Brian May and Kerry Ellis band for their
Anthems Tour a couple of years ago and I've just enjoyed
playing a nice long stint with the We Will Rock You show
in Germany and Switzerland.
Those splendid people
at Wampler Pedals approached me and asked if I would demonstrate a few
different tones using the brand new Ace 30 pedal
and we're going to be basically playing through a few Queen riffs
seeing if we can get a few tones that are kind of Brian May
esque.
In terms of equipment we've decided to steer away
from using equipment associated with Brian
I'm just using a regular 3 single coil S
style guitar.
This is a Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Special
This kind of guitar is something that a lot of people will have
a 3 pickup guitar or a Strat or something.
I'm plugged into the pedal
then I'm running into a Blackstar Series 150
valve head.
I'm using the
Bright Clean setting which is Blackstar's
boutique channel if you like.
We're steering
away from using any chorus and delay which is obviously
a large part of Brian's tone
He uses treble boosters and stuff like that
This pedal has got a booster built in
and I'm actually [Fm] going to be using the
30 headroom setting.
It's kind [N] of emulating the sound
or matching the sound of either a boutique amp with a
30 watt or a 15 watt.
I've got mine set to
the 30 watt.
I've just plugged from the guitar straight into the pedal straight into the amp
and it's mic'd up.
I'm just adding a little bit of reverb to give it a bit
of ambience.
Anyway, that's enough of the talking and
[Ab] I'm going to play through a few more Queen riffs
and hopefully you'll enjoy [G] them and
we'll probably break out the Brian May guitar for something at the end.
[D] Hope you enjoy.

[N] One of the things that really
impressed me about this pedal was the way that it really reacts
like a valve amplifier.
What I mean by that is I can have
quite a high gain setting on the pedal and
I can have the guitar volume turned up and have a very saturated
tone and then I can back the guitar volume down and I'll get a really
nice glassy tone where the guitar is just on the edge.
You can just hear
it starting to break up and if you hit the guitar strings a little bit harder it will
start to make it overdrive.
For me that was a really important factor when
looking at this pedal and testing it.
The Ace
30 really does this really well and really does react and
sound like an authentic class A valve
amplifier.
I'm going to demonstrate that for you [D] now with another bit of Classic Queen.

For our final and closing little demonstration
I've got the Brian May guitar out just to
be really authentic.
I'm going to be using the middle and the neck pickup
out of phase.
It's a very unusual tone which
is very kind of squawky so
I wanted to use this guitar to really kind of
hopefully nail it as close as I could with this setup.
I'm also
with the pedal I've got everything flat out
in terms of gain and boost so really really saturated
and so hopefully from these demonstrations you've been able to hear glassy
cleans all the way through to the pedal kind of maxed out.
Anyway I hope you've enjoyed watching this
short video and I hope it's demonstrated
how authentic the pedal is.
Like I said I haven't used any
chorus and delay which is something which is obviously associated with Brian's
tone.
We just wanted to present the pedal in it's kind of purest
form.
Anyway I'm going to close off the video now
with our final bit of Brian May.
Hope you enjoy it.
Here we go.
