Howdy partner!
He is Waylon [Eb] from the Netherlands.
How did your
obsession with Nashville and country come to life?
Oh wow I was about six
years old and I started playing drums and I couldn't play a lick.
I was just
trying to play drums and pop music was [E] very difficult to to play with and I'm
not the kind of guy that has the [Abm] discipline to go to [A] lessons and [Ab] try.
I
just want to play.
Yeah.
And [C] so I got introduced to country music [F] when I was
six, seven years old and it was [Db] music that I could relate [Ab] to.
It had three
chords, it had [A]
simple melodies [N] and it was about the truth and I could play with it.
I mean it was easy to play drums with that music so it allowed me to to
develop my skills and that's where my love for country music came from.
I'm
from Georgia and you sound like everyone I grew up with when you talk.
I saw your video on YouTube.
You made a video.
Yeah.
And that's where you talked.
Oh bless you.
I remember that.
We are fast friends.
You're here with Alilsa.
Is that better or worse?
No different?
[B]
Right now it's a good thing because she probably doesn't know the
songs.
No it's a good thing.
I mean [Em] 2014 was a great [Eb] year.
It was a
[C] beautiful achievement you know and after that we both went our separate
ways [G] because we couldn't agree on a lot of things and [E] which is okay.
[C] But I
always said I would love to [G] even before 2014 I always said I would [Gb] love to
go to Eurovision because it's one of the [Dm] biggest stages in the world [Gb] for an
artist and if you are who you [N] are and you don't give in to all the craziness
that's around this and you don't go searching for the perfect Eurovision
song.
I think you might do pretty good.
Well that's what we proved in
2014 of course.
It seems to be your strategy this year because you're
definitely doing you.
Yeah well and that's the whole thing that nobody
knows if you're gonna win this contest you know and it's not really about
winning.
It would be wonderful but winning is more for the country.
It's
more for it's great to have Eurovision in the Netherlands next year.
That
would be awesome but for me as an artist I just like the fact that I can
bring my own music and the music I grew up with and music that not a lot of
people in Europe know about.
To be an ambassador for that kind of music
and to breathe some new life into the Eurovision.
So this is also possible.
There's more possibilities.
Who is the outlaw in you?
Well I'm all outlaw.
I like to do things my way in a good [Ab] way but
[F] I've always been outside the
written laws you know.
Not like the laws [D] that you know police and [F] not
that [G] kind of stuff but like the laws [N]
of making music.
Everybody gives in to
making [Eb]
[A] a career you know but if you don't really care about your career [G] you
start to care about [N] other stuff and I care about my career in that way that I
think it's important to keep it with music.
But I want to make the
music that I love.
That's the whole thing and it would be as I said it
would be great to introduce some new music into Europe and to be an
ambassador [C] for that.
Final question the [Eb] hat does it give you confidence?
Do you
feel naked without it?
No I don't always wear a hat but I just [D] love hats.
He is Waylon from the Netherlands.
And it's easier I don't have to do my hair.
Oh [C] can we see it?
Oh yeah of course.
Luminous.
[G] Thank you so much.
Don't you even.
