Hello again, our song here is We Come to Your Feast, text and tune by Michael Jonkis.
[Fm] I use this song once a year.
[B] It's actually a wonderful song [N] for the Eucharist, but my specific use for it is for the long
dressing of the altar on Holy Thursday.
If you notice, the first three verses begin with, We place upon your table a gleaming
cloth of white, a humble loaf of bread, a simple cup of wine.
So over the years at my church, we've incorporated this song into that long dressing by having
each of those things brought up at the time when that verse appears.
So obviously the beginning is as the gleaming cloth of white is being brought up reverently
and laid on the altar, we're singing that verse next to the bread and then the wine.
And as it's completed, we are singing the final verse.
The refrain obviously is very easy.
Our assembly sings it very strongly.
So I would encourage you to find a copy of this song and use it for your assembly.
Maybe you'll use it the same way I do, maybe you won't, but this is We Come to Your Feast.
I would suggest keeping the instrumentation pretty simple.
Piano would be great.
A little light percussion even.
You can use perhaps bongo drums or some sort of other light thing just to give a little
rhythm behind it, but I wouldn't do too much with this song.
The richness is really in the [G] words, particularly in the verses.
It sounds like this.
[C] [G]
We place [C] upon the table a [G] gleaming cloth of white, the weaving [C] of our stories, the fabric
[G] of [D] our lives, [G] the dreams of those before
[Em] us, the ancient [C] hope who cries.
The promise [G] of our future, our needing [Am] and our nurture, [G] lie here before our eyes.
We come [C] to your feast.
We come [G] to your feast.
The young [Em] and the old, the frightened, [A] the [Em] bravest [D] and the least.
We come [C] to your feast.
We [G] come to your feast.
With the [Am] fruit of our lands and the work of our hands, we [G] come to your feast.
[D] [G]
We place [C] upon your table a [G] hollow loaf of bread, the gift [C] of field and hillside, the
grain [D] by which we're fed.
We [G] come to taste the presence
[Em] of Him on [C] whom we feed, to [G] strengthen and connect us, to
challenge [Am] and correct us, to love [G] in word and deed.
We come to [C] your feast.
We come [G] to your feast.
The young [Em] and the old, the [A] frightened, the bold, the [D] greatest and the least.
We come [C] to your feast.
We [G] come to your feast.
With the [Am] fruit of our lands and the work of our hands, we come [G] to your feast.
We place [C] upon your table a simple [G] cup of wine, the fruit of [C] human labor, the gift of [G] son [D] and thigh.
We [G] come to taste the presence [Em] of Him we [C] claim as Lord.
His dying [G] and His living, His leaving [Am] and His giving, His [G] love in cup of gold.
We [C] come to your feast.
We come [G] to your feast.
The young [Em] and the old, the frightened, [A] the bold, the greatest [D] and the least.
We come to [C] your feast.
We [G] come to your feast.
With the [Am] fruit of our lands and the work of our hands, we come [G] to your feast.
We gather [C] round your table.
We [Em] pause within [G] our quest.
We stand [C] beside our neighbors.
We name the [D] stranger guest.
The feast is [G] spread before [Em] us.
You bid us [C] come and dine.
In [G] blessing we'll uncover, in sharing [Am] we'll discover your [G] substance and your sign.
We come [C] to your feast.
We [G] come to your feast.
The [Em] young and the old, the [A] frightened, the bold, the [D] greatest and the least.
[G] We come [C] to your feast.
We come [G] to your feast.
With the fruit [Am] of our lands and the work of our hands, we come [G] to your feast.
