Something I've always been curious about [Eb] when bands are going out and road testing things,
as we're talking about, [Em] do you ever find [D] something new in it that you say,
ah damn I wish I'd put that on the album, that little part or that note,
or you might even come up with a new way of phrasing a line.
Do you get [A] that with certain songs?
[C] Yes.
Absolutely.
Damn it.
[B] Absolutely.
And you know [F] with this record, some of the songs we had already been playing
before we recorded the record, and some of them we,
about half and half, maybe less than half we had, I don't know what the math is,
doesn't matter, but,
42%.
That's part of what makes a [C] studio album or a record so special though,
is that, [D] you know, for me it's really about commitment,
and it's about that moment in time.
I heard a, there's a Lauryn Hill [Gb] line in a song that is,
a [F] record is a recording of an event, and it speaks true to me,
because you know there [D] are like, one of the songs we play,
Windshield, it was brand new, we basically composed it in [Eb] the studio,
like I had written the song, but we didn't know how it was going to work,
and we sort of like live played it, and then we listened to it,
and we were like, this is how we're going to do it.
And now that we've played it a bunch of times,
we might be able to go nail it differently.
But the way that we created it in the studio at that moment was so special.

[Am] Everything is working [F]
properly, [C] cause it's all inside,
[A] There's something on [F] the windshield, [C] and I can't fucking see,
[Am] Besides no one [F] volunteer to [C] drive me,

[C] [Am] [F]
[C] [Am] Are you looking [F] out for me, or [C] am I left to be without [Am] you,
Could be years [F] of [C] dissatisfaction, like hard times when a loved one [Am] dies,
Or [F] heartache when you're left [C] behind,
Forced to take the sleepless [Am] nights [F] alone, [C] alone, alone,
[Am] Someone better [F] hide the children,
[C] I think things are getting out of [Am] hand,
And there's nothing [F] for the woman [C] left,
Take from the man,
[Am] All the stories [F] of our parents [C] are falling apart,
The lies [F] don't you protect us,
[C] Keep from breaking our hearts,
Oh, [Am]

[C] oh,
[Am] There's a secret in [F] the basement, [C] I can feel it through the floor,
I [Am] don't think this heart [F] can take the weight [C] of deception anymore,
[Am] Cry out [F] in heavenly [C] agony,
For [Am] the broken [F] memories and [C] things I thought that I would [Am] never be,
Oh, oh, [F] oh, oh, [C] oh,
