Today I want to introduce to you one of God's names, El [A] Shaddai.
It comes [D] from two words, El which means all-powerful [A] and Shadd which means a nursing mother.
To [B] understand this name fully, we need to [Bm] interpret it by using a hermeneutic [E] method called the principle of first mention.
God had promised Abraham that his descendants would be [F#m] like the stars in the sky.
And yet when he couldn't see [Bm] it happen, he decided to help God instead of [D] trusting his promise.
[E] Ishmael was born [A] out of Abraham's relationship with Hagar,
which in due course plunged two [Bm] nations into a conflict [E] that remains to this day.
[A] Abraham blew [D] it.
He dropped the [C#m] ball.
[Bm] And just when he thought it was all over,
[F#] God appears to Abraham at the [Bm] age of 99 and tells Abraham,
[E] I am El Shaddai, [F#] which means I'm not only compassionate,
but I'm also [Bm] powerful enough to [E] execute my promise.
[Bm] What God wanted to tell [A] Abraham is this,
Abraham, [Bm] you dropped the ball and I still [E] love you.
We have a faithful God and let us put our [A] faith in his promises more than our [F#m] circumstances.
