[A] [C] Okay, let's try it again.
In 72.
One, two, ready, and.
Elemental Music is a non-profit here in Santa Monica.
We provide after-school music [F] programs for kids from third [A] grade up through eighth grade.
Elemental Strings was our namesake program.
It's a primarily intermediate level youth orchestra program for elementary school kids.
I [N] like it because [C] you get to play in an orchestra [Gm] where there's first violins and [A] second violins and third violins and [D] violas.
It's exciting to see how all the parts came together.
[C]
[Am] [G] Many of our students have only been playing for about a year in school.
A lot of them don't take private lessons.
The biggest prerequisite for getting into our programs is the eagerness to [D] learn.
[Eb]
[Em] I mean, I was pretty nervous when I first joined because I didn't know what the teachers would be like.
I [D] was scared that they would get mad at me for not being [Em] able to play violin.
But then once I [Bm] got to know them better, I realized that they were just trying to help.
We're blessed to have some of the [C] very best teachers on the west side.
And you see these relationships between [F] the students and their teachers really blossom over [C] the course of the year.
This is tricky.
Down, up, down, up, up, down, up, down, up, down.
The energy and the excitement that the students come with, they're definitely very motivated.
But they also look forward to seeing friends that maybe go to a different school.
And so hopefully those friendships then last into middle school and high school.
[Am] I like coming because [F] my friends are here and everybody just [C] pays attention so you can get a lot done and make it sound really good.
[G] Up, up, down, up, up, down, up, down.
What I really [C] love about this is the level of growth you see.
[D] From the first rehearsal, the idea of following a conductor is completely new [G] to them.
And then to this last concert, it's pretty tremendous to see [Am] that growth.
After your first [D] concert, it just is awesome.
You want to [G] do it over and over again.
Let's try it one more time.
[Am] And since we started Elemental Strings in [F] 2004, over 800 students have been part of our programs.
We have several that are professional musicians, but they [C] got their start with us.
My hope is that [F] they're garnering an appreciation for music.
Whether that leads [C] them to continue as a professional musician, I just want them to really learn to appreciate music and enjoy playing as an ensemble.
It's cool to be able to be good at [F] something and knowing that people are amazed.
