Hey guitar friends, my name is Robbie and I'm here to help you learn how to play your favorite
country songs on guitar.
Today I've got a beginner guitar lesson for Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley
and Alison Krauss.
I did a more advanced lesson on the picking of the song so if you're interested
in that there's a link down below to that lesson.
But today I've got an easy beginner guitar lesson
for you for Whiskey Lullaby.
The chords we'll play on this are B minor and if you can't do bar
chords quite yet you can [Gb] just play the fourth, [Bm] third, second, and first strings for the B minor.
[G] We'll play G, [Em] A, [A] you [E] can also play that A with just your first finger barring here [A] on the second fret.
We're going to play C sharp minor and we're going to keep that A there second fret here with the
first string and we're going to add the fourth fret up here on the fifth string and that'll be
our C sharp minor and [D] we're going to play the D chord for this song.
[C] Our intro starts out on the
B [Bm] minor chord and we'll be going from the B minor [G] to the G here on the intro.
So here's what the
intro sounds like.
[G]
The strumming pattern I'm doing is down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down, [Bm] up,
down, down, up, down, down.
[G]
So B minor and G for the [D] intro and then we go down here to the D chord
to start the [Ab] first verse.
So here's how we play the first verse.
She [D] put him out like
[G] the burning end of a midnight [Bm] cigarette.
[A] She broke C sharp minor back to the [D] D
chord.
He [G] spent his whole life trying [A] to forget.
[Bm] Watched him drink his pain [D] away a little at a time
[Bm] but he never could get drunk enough to [D] get her off his mind until [A] the night.
A and we end our verse on the A chord there.
Then we [D] go back to the D to start the chorus
and the chorus starts out [A] D, A, B minor back to the A to the G and then we [D] continue on.
So here's
we play the chorus.
He put that bottle to his head and pulled [A] the trigger.
[Bm]
Finally drank away her
[G] memory.
[D] Life is short but this time it [A] was bigger than [Bm] the strength he had to get [G] up off his knee.
[D] Held his face down in [A] the pillow with [Bm]
a note that said I'll love her [G] till I die.
[D] And buried him beneath [A] the willow.
[G]
Angels sang a whiskey [Bm] lullaby.
La la la la la la la la la la la [G] la.
[Bm] Chorus ends with that [G] B minor to G.
We do that twice and then
we go back [D] to the D chord for the next verse.
So here's how we play the [Eb] next verse.
The [D] rumors flew
But [G] nobody knew how much she [Bm] blamed herself for [D] years and years.
[G] She tried to hide the whiskey [A] on her bread.
[Bm] She finally drank her pain [D] away a little at a time.
[Bm] But she never could get drunk [D] enough to get him off her mind.
[A] Until the night she put [D] that bottle to her head.
