[E] My name is Alex Waite.
I play guitar for the metal band Whitechapel, and here with me I have my signature ESP guitar
that features DiMarzio Deactivator pickups.
When I was designing this guitar, I wanted it to just be a really solid guitar for playing rhythm.
The DiMarzio Deactivator plays a big role in my tone in that Whitechapel needs a really
big, aggressive sounding [A] tone, and the Deactivator pulls that off.
We have pretty low tunings, drop A and drop G, with 7-string guitars, and the Deactivator
just has a ton of clarity and a ton of [Gb] bite and has all the attack [F] we need.
I decided to couple the Deactivator bridge pickup with the Deactivator neck pickup.
I really feel like they complement each other very well.
They're balanced as a set so that they work together very well.
When you switch back and forth between them, one's not louder than the other.
And it's really great to be [B] chugging away on your bridge pickup and flip it to the lead.
It adds more texture to the tone.
It lets the roundness of the notes come through while still having a lot of clarity.
It doesn't have too much high end to it.
It's real smooth.
Lets the body of the note really ring through.
And [C] this is what it sounds like.
[Ab] [C]
[Ab] [G] The Deactivator bridge pickup has a ton of clarity to it, which helps us out when we're
tuning down low.
There's a couple songs on the new record that are in drop G, one of them being The Saw Is The Law.
And the bridge pickup really just helps that single-string note just really shine.
[Bb] [D]
[Bm] I feel like our live shows play a lot of importance into the new sound that we developed [Eb] on Our
Endless War because our live sound is very loud, it's very aggressive, and we want to
be able to bring that aggression to CD so that our fans can listen to it with them anywhere.
Now that we know what kind of music and what parts go well over live, that we know to include
that kind of stuff into the new music, which is what we've done on Our Endless War.
We took about eight months to write and record the record, which is more time than we've
spent on any other album that we've put out.
When we were in the studio, we were all working really well together, and everything was just
coming together so naturally.
I feel like Our Endless War is every member of Whitechapel at their [C] finest.
You can tell everybody was really putting a lot of aggression into the playing, and
that sound really helps translate [Dm]
what Whitechapel [C] is.
