_ _ _ [N] 2018 Taste of Country Music Festival and if you saw a hatted mustachioed guy about halfway
up that hill crying 60 seconds into Ashley McBride's set on Saturday.
It wasn't me.
Nope.
Not me.
Wasn't you.
It wasn't.
This is Ashley McBride.
How are you?
I'm good.
I'm good.
You started your set with Girl Going Nowhere, an acoustic ballad that people who don't own
your album haven't heard.
I mean that's a gutsy move.
I know but if you really want to show the crowd what you're going to do, let's start
out really slow and low and then move up from there.
I mean it absolutely worked.
You had your faithful in front of you who were screaming and everybody up the hill was
certainly caught our attention.
They're amazing.
This is a beautiful venue isn't it?
Yeah.
Of course.
Now a lot of people say that Eric Church kind of discovered you in some aspect.
He kind of put you on the map a little bit.
He could say that.
What was your first conversation with Eric Church like?
I was in sweatpants, a hoodie.
He and his wife in an office and they said, we're big fans.
Nice.
And I went, oh god, that's so backwards.
But it was nice.
It was nice.
And very shortly after he invited me out to Chicago to go to the show and we had a really good time.
I was terrified but we had a good time.
Terrified of the performance or terrified of Eric Church?
I had no idea that I was performing that night.
I go to the show, Eric says you're performing.
I tried to make the best of the worst and we did a really good job of it.
Where were you at career wise?
What did you have going on at that point for yourself?
Really all we had was, we had the attention of WME, Wade Morris.
With the attention of Warner Music and every other label in the state.
It was just a really small camp.
Like the Misfit Toys.
And they all came forward and said, we want you with us.
That's really cool.
And now you and Eric Church, are you guys friends?
Do you hang?
Do you get coffee?
I would say we're friends.
Could we go knock on his tour bus right now or do we need an appointment?
I mean, you know what, I challenge you.
We could.
We actually could.
Normally he just hands me a bottle of Jack.
You guys just want something to talk about.
That stupid journalist thought he could get on my bus.
We'll show him.
He calls Ashley a whiskey drinking badass.
Have you held up your end of that reputation while in New York this weekend?
I've held it up.
But I will tell you that Eric beats me every time.
Eric Church.
Anybody else?
Okay, yes.
Luke Combs.
Luke Combs.
Out drinks me every time.
There is a girl that sings back up for Eric.
Joanna Cotton.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
She can put it away.
Not only does she have the pipes to out sing me, but she also can out drink me every time.
Does this bother you that she can out drink you?
At first it bothered me.
I was like, no one can out drink me.
But now I'm just like, I'm at home with it.
Like, she really can.
She really can.
It's a great story and it's a great album.
Go check out Girl Going Nowhere if you can get it on Spotify.
[A] Take the plunge and buy the dang thing because [N] it's more than worth it.
Oh, just get it.
Just do it.
Just get it.
Your mama says it's okay.
If you don't like it, there's an address on the inside of the record and you send it back to me.
That's a good deal.
Is that true?
And then I'll send you a record I don't like.
Backstreet Boys, coming your way.
It's a 2018 Taste of Country Music Festival with Ashlyn Pride.
Thank you very much.
