Now I mentioned earlier on that you're doing a sort of a get-together as a special sort of commemoration.
What is it, actually?
Well, we started about a year ago.
We filmed a documentary tape of the Clancy brothers and Tommy Macon.
We wanted to put something down on film.
And in order to do that, we've done a series of concerts.
We did one here at the Royal Albert Hall, and we did one in the Lincoln Center in New York,
and now we're going to do some more.
Super.
And we filmed them.
Well, I'm very pleased you did.
Now, where are you all living now?
Well, I'm living in California at present.
And I live in Carrickinshire, just about 15 miles down the road from where your ancestral home is.
Where I was.
Tipperary.
And Liam lives over there, too.
Yeah, I live down in West Waterford.
Don't say my hometown again.
And where does the gentleman, Tommy, where do you live?
I live in a merry cave.
Oh, I see.
Whereabouts?
In a place called New Hampshire.
Good.
[G] Beautiful green spot.
Put in a good word [F] for me.
I'll tell Ronnie you want to come over.
You know, the boys were on the show with me, the last time they appeared was 1967.
And I missed a great opportunity then of being a Clancy brother for one night.
So I went out and bought my Barney this week, and he said to me,
now when you go in, he said, ask for the [C] right pattern, it must be either Clancy or Doonican.
Now, which is that?
Well, like coats of arms, I must [N] explain that they do have, like family crests, they do have a pattern.
Now, this is obviously, somebody took them in, because that is Wogan, if ever I saw.
I mean, after all, it's [F] soft, it's cuddly, and a little bit thick.
[N]
I think we better sing before he comes in.
Come on, up you go.
[C] And it's no, nay, never.
[F] No, nay, never, [Bb] no.
[F] But I play the [Bb] wild rover, [F] [C]
come [F] on.
I've been a wild rover for many a [Bb] year.
[F] And I spent [C] all my money on whiskey [F] and beer.
But now I'm returning with gold in great [Bb] store.
[F] And I never [C] will play the wild [F] rover, no.
[C] And it's no, nay, [C] never.
[F] No, nay, never, [Bb] no more.
But I play the [Bb] wild rover, [F] no, [C] never, [F] no more.
I went into an alehouse where I used to [Bb] frequent.
And I [F] told the [C] landlady me money [F] was spent.
I asked her for credit, she answered [Bb] me nay.
[F] Such a custom [C] as yours I can get [F] any day.
And [C] it's no, [C]
nay, never.
[F]
No, nay, never, [Bb] no more.
[F] But I play the [Bb] wild rover, [F] no, never, no more.
From out of me pocket I took [Bb] Sovereign's Bride.
[F] And the [C] landlady's eyes, they just shone with [F] delight.
She said I've got whiskeys and wines of [Bb] the best.
[F] And the words [C] that I said were just [F] spoken in jest.
[C] And it's no, nay, never.
[F] No, nay, never, [Bb] no more.
But [F] I play the [Bb] wild rover, [F] no, never,
[C] [F] no more.
I'll go home to my parents, confess what [Bb] I've done.
[F] And I'll ask them [C] to pardon their prodigal [F] son.
And if they'll caress me as oft times [Bb] before.
Then I never [C] will play the wild rover, [F] no.
[C] And it's no, nay, never.
[F]
No, nay, never, [Bb] no more.
[F] But I play the wild [Bb] rover, [F] no, never, no more.
[C] [F] Once more like you mean it.
[C] And it's no, nay, never.
[F] No, nay, never, [Bb] no more.
[F] But I play the wild rover, no, never,
[C] no more.
