Hi little sister.
Hello there.
Hey, we can see each other.
[A] [D]
[Ab] [A]
[E] [Bm] [A]
[E] I pass [A] that sprinkle with the [A] blues,
A few old [D] dreams that I [C] can't use,
[Ab] Oh, [A] by my memories [Gb] of things that [Bm] used to be.
We [E] grew up in Abbott, Texas, which is a little [A] small town up in central Texas,
in the cotton country up there.
Grew up [D] working on farms and making [Eb] our school money,
picking cotton, baling [A] hay, whatever.
It was a [Bm] great way to grow up.
[A] We learned a little about everything in Abbott.
There was no laws up there, so we could pretty well do [D] what we wanted to do
as long as we lived through it, and fortunately we did.
My [A] memories all lead to her.
[E] Some of my really earliest memories, besides walking through the field,
[D] would be us learning music, our grandparents showing us music.
Oh, by [A] my memories
[E] of things that used to [D] be.
[Bm]
[A]
[Bm] Our grandfather was very much [E] into gospel music, our [A] grandmother too,
and I was [Dbm] trying to learn to [Gbm] play the pump organ.
[A] I remember [Bm] Daddy Nelson showing [D] Willie how to [E] play the guitar,
and he taught you how to sing [A] so that when he'd go to school,
[G] he could sing [E] for the kids.
I [A] get my energy from the sun, [Bm]
[E] but I'm not the only [A] one,
and I feel better when I'm [Bm] done.
[E]
I get my energy from the sun.
[A] [G]
[Gb] [E] He wasn't very old when he was writing music,
and we were performing in the revival meetings.
A lot of people did that.
They were all day singing and dinner on the ground.
After church, everybody would get together.
That was Willie's first performance, I [G] believe.
Public [A] performance.
[Gm]
I know you won't [Ab] believe [Cm] these things I tell you.
We [G] play together, I think, as [Cm] well as anybody.
When [D] it's just her and I, it's a lot of fun to play.
[G] There's nothing like playing music with Willie.
I get an energy [Cm] from just sitting with me and the piano,
but when I sit with Willie, it's just an [G] all-new energy.
When we put that all [A] together, you can really feel it.
[C] [G]
[F] [E]
It's nice to [Am] know that Sister [G] Bobbie is over there
because whenever I [E] need someone to take the lead,
[Am]
all I have to do is nod at [G] Sister Bobbie, and she's already there.
She knows what to do, and it'll give me a chance to relax a [D] little bit
and figure out what I'm going to do next.
I'll at least give it a try anyway.
This looks [Eb] like a [Bb] December day
[Cm]
[Gm] [Bb] This looks [Eb] like a time to [F] remember a [A] day
[Dm] These are songs that the old standards that we grew up playing,
like What'll I Do in Alexander's Ragtime Band,
those songs are some [B] of the best songs ever written.
And there's a lot of [Db] original stuff that I wrote.
We've had them recorded for [Bb] a long time,
and [Cm] I thought it was time to get those out there.
And [Eb] as my memories race back to [Dm] love's eager beginning
[B] They lucked out to play [A] with the thoughts of the [F] ending
The ending that [Bb] won't go away
[Eb] It's nice to know that someone [Dm]
wants to hear
[B] and enjoy [A] your endeavors, what you do,
[F] and who'll buy our [C] memories.
[Bb] That's what keeps us out there.
And this looks [Eb] like a [Bb] December day
