[E] I'm Ripley from Wooden Ships and I'm shopping at Amoeba in Hollywood.
Found some good stuff, as usual.
[Em] [Bb] This is Planksteen.
[Am] This is an Irish folk rock band, I guess.
Why do you leave your house and your land?
Why do you leave your money here?
Why do you leave your heronee with a card?
You're a fool for the record, I told you to see.
This was recommended to me by an Irish friend.
And I was sort of [Gm] looking [Gb] for [A] Irish rock, other [C] than Pin Lizzy and Van Morrison.
This I've never [A] heard of, so I just discovered this today.
[Gm] Salty Dog.
It's [Em] a zam rock [Gm] band, [Bb] which is [E] this term for
[Em] psychedelic-ish rock [Am] bands from Zambia in [E] the 70s.
Bands like Witch and Chrissy's Ebi Tembo.
There's quite a few, actually, and [Gm] they all have a sort of particular [A] sound.
[E] It's different from a lot of African rock.
[Am] It doesn't have the same sort of African rhythms.
[E] It's more [D] like American garage rock.
[Gm]
[E] [A] [E]
[G] Very low-fi, [E] simple songs, but [A] also [Em] like really good spirit and energy.
[Gb]
[Em] I [Gb] have high hopes for this.
This is a Halloween II soundtrack, part of a [B] [Gb] reissue series by Death Waltz Recording Company.
[Bm] [Gb]
Halloween's my favorite movie, one of my favorite movies.
Certainly my [G] favorite horror movie.
[Gb] I'm working on trying to come up with some horror music for a silent film.
[G] So this will be inspiration.
But I think I'm going [Em] to crank this out the window on Halloween night [Bb] for all the trick-or-treaters.
This [Ab] album, with [Eb] a hilarious cover [C] featuring a bunch of Stevie Ray Vaughan picks, [Em] is by [F] a [Bb] guitarist named [C] Bill Orcutt.
[F] And he [Am] was in a band called [D] Hairy Pussy, which [C] is a pretty extreme [Bb] noise band [Ab] sort of famous.
[D]
[G]
[D] [Ab] But in [F] the last few years he's taken up acoustic guitar and sort of, I think, approaches it with his own sort of style.
I [Bb] don't know if anyone taught him anything.
It's similar to a blues kind of style, but [F] maybe without the blues part.
[Fm]
[F] [Ab] Really [F]
[Am] primitive [C] and raw, [Bbm] but somehow [Gm] [F] soothing also to me.
[C] Devo Hardcore [Bb] Vol.
[D] 2.
These were just re-released by [Am] someone, I don't know.
But they're original four-track [D] recordings that Devo made before they made any proper albums.
[C] It's a little raw.
I [Ab] don't actually have this one, [D] so I don't know what it's like.
I don't [Bb] [Ab] know, [Bb] I'm a big fan.
This I [C] found in the [Ab] employee recommends section.
I think it was Larry's [C] pick.
It's not any good.
Larry's to blame.
Kim Selman is an Australian guy who was in a band called The Scientists, who were in the 80s.
[F] I don't know, I don't even call them punk.
They sound a lot like The Stooges or [G] something, kind of garage-y.
Pretty raw, but a great band.
[C]
[G] [C] I [G] actually had a chance to play with Kim [C] Selman once, and [G] he's a super nice [C] guy also on top of it, which is great.
So this is his band after The Scientists.
I'm just taking a punt on this [G] one.
Hopefully it's good.
[E]
[D] That's it.
[A] That's all I can afford.
That's great.
Thank you so much.
