[A] [D] Oh very young, [E] what will you leave us this [D] time?
[E] You're only dancing on [A] this earth [D] for a short while
I'm being followed by a [G] moonshot, [D] moonshot, [C] moonshot
[G] These strings [C] sounding loud, right on the beachside
[G] Oh baby, [F] baby, it's a wild world
My songs are, [C] you know, are kind of narrative to my life
And if you look at them, listen to them,
you'll hear all the explanations of where I was and where I was going
Road singer came to town, [F] long [C] cape and [G] hat
Road [Cm] singer in [C] particular is the song that tells a real story
That's my songs I think, is when I really [F] tell a true story
But I [C] do it in such a way that I transfer it to another sort of pictorial [G] scene
In this case it's like a road singer [A] walking into a [C] dusty old town
You know, where people shut their doors and dogs are sent out to [Am] bark and chase the stuff out
Particularly I love this [G] part of the story
It's [G] when a little girl sort of smiles at him and runs [C] into the house
And then [A] from behind a window [Fm] pane, you [Am] know, draws a beautiful heart
[G] And then her [A] name
[G] And that's
I like that
[A] Where do you [G] go?
[D] Where do you go?
[F]
When the [C] world turns dark
[F] And the light [Am] of truth is blown [G] out
And [F] the roads [C] are blocked
In [E]
[Em] [E] [C] a way this new record isn't so different from my kind of early stuff
And that [E] was one of the [B] reasons why I kind of went back to the guitar [F#] again
Was [A] to link back with my [Em] sound
There are a few other kind of interesting instruments going on
But a lot of it is still [E] pure and simple, me and the guitar
[A] [E] And that's what a lot of people wanted to [G] hear
If I find [Bm] everything's the way it seemed
[A] One night [E] ago
[Em] [E]
[D] [Em] [A] [D] [E]
[Em] [E] [Em] [E] I
[C] [G] [Am] have journeyed [F] [C] endless [G]
miles
It [Am] wasn't a conscious decision to record an album
Actually it was kind of like an accident
[G] My son knew I was writing all these songs, of course, for the musical, Moon Shadows
He said, well, come on, Deb, why don't you get in the studio [C] and start recording again?
I got this [F] idea, the VW van
Because [G] the VW camper van [A] represents [G] the peace [D] movement
And that's what my message ultimately is all about
It was really fun, but driving [B] that thing was quite hairy
I didn't know [G] if I'd ever make it [F] across town, but I did
[G] [C] Be [Bm] you [Am] dust, [C] [F] or [Em] be you [G] stone
[Am]
[Em] Indeed [Am] what you must, just reach [G] out for what you [C] are
[Bm] Though [Am] you travel [F] [C] [G] many roads
[Am]
[Em] [Am] There's but one [F] way, and [G] that's the one [C] you should
When [G] [C] [G] I hold your hand
[C]
I could fly a [G] zillion [C] miles with you
[G] When I see your [Em] grace
[A] [G] I can see all God's [C] words come true
[F] Every little [E] bird above me
One [A] of the things about this album, I think, is that it does, again, reflect
a very important [C#] statement about [G#] the condition [C] of the world right now
We've all [Am] got lost in this race for material
and falling over each other [G] in the [Am] process
So it is very much connected [Dm] to the [Em] darkness [Dm] of this particular time
[G] And yet, it's always light
[C] [F] Whatever you [Dm] say
[G] Lightens up the burden of the [C] day
[F] Whatever you [Dm] do
[G] Mixers want to follow you
[C] Whatever [F] they say, [Am] whatever they do
[G] I'll always love you
[F] To express [C] myself in music is [D] much easier [C] than for me to stand up and give a [Cm] lecture
[G] Because you can argue with [C] philosophy, but you can't argue with a good song
And I think I've got a few good songs
[F] Whatever you do
Mixers [G] want to follow you
[C] Whatever [F] they say, [Am] whatever they do
[G] I'll always love you
