All right, man, [Eb] so what was the inspiration for [Ab] this song?
Shoot.
The inspiration for this song, me and Michael Ferran sat down, first time meeting [Fm] him, [Db] and
he honestly [Ab] just asked me my testimony.
I mean, I was a brand new believer.
I think he knew that.
I think somebody introduced us that way, saying, hey, [Eb] this is a country artist.
He just met Jesus.
[Ab] He's fired up.
And I was.
And so [Db] we went in and he was like, [Ab] bro, you know, tell me your testimony.
And, you know, [Eb] you know, [Ab] I struggle with alcoholism, with relationships, [Fm] family relationships.
And [Ab] obviously the third verse of Jesus is fought, you know, [Ab] touches on some disagreements
I had, you know, with my wife and stuff.
And so we just [Eb] laid it out there, you know, and Jesus is fought.
[Ab] That was just such a draw.
Just that title, [Db] you know.
I love it. Yeah.
And so, so, yeah, it's a very honest, simple,
[Eb] you know, country [Ab] take on my testimony in a nutshell.
And Michael Ferran, you know, he's a genius.
I've written [Db] several songs with him.
I remember he sent me the song.
I was on [Ab] tour last year and [F] I [Eb] just see the title Jesus is fought.
Right.
Immediately I was [Ab] like, this is what's this?
[Db] I heard the song, man, and I was blown away.
I was just [Fm] like, I know the people.
I know my [Ab] audience.
I know the guys that struggle with the same things I struggle with.
You struggle [Eb] with, we all struggle [Ab] with.
And I knew immediately I was like, I want to record this.
I didn't know if you're recording it or not.
And I remember calling you and being like, Hey dude, I [Db] heard this song and
[Fm] I'm recording
it [Ab] or not, you know, and I'd love for you to [Eb] be a part of it.
And we kind of talked back and forth and I remember you saying, [Ab] well, you know, get it,
get it to a [Db] place that you want me to hear it.
And man, we came in and worked on [Ab] this and I couldn't be happier with what it turned [Eb] out.
It sounds so good.
[Ab] I've been in Nashville since 04.
[Db] So, and all I've ever wanted was an [Ab] outside cut, which is funny.
Most of that time I wasn't [Eb] a believer.
And then, so yeah, just [Ab] the joy in my heart that you wanted [Db] to cut an outside song and
then goodness [Fm] gracious, when I heard it, you know, [Ab] I lost it.
You know, can you [Eb] imagine?
I mean, to hear my own.
[Ab] Yeah.
I remember [Db] you saying that.
You were like, you know, you get to go out every [Ab] night and share your story, your testimony.
And this is the first time I've [Eb] heard my testimony in a song.
It was crazy.
And [Ab] you sing way better [Ab] than me.
So, you know, [Db] it's, it's such a powerful [Fm] song.
I [Ab] remember hearing it and being like, Hey, if that's [Eb] it, that, that was amazing.
I mean, I remember where I [Ab] was driving, but now I'm just, yeah, [Db] I remembered like, just,
I just love the title.
[Ab] I love that Jesus's fault is a compliment.
Right.
You know what [Eb] I mean?
Like, it's a compliment when you say it that way.
It's like, [Ab] man, you know, that, that old me's gone.
And [Db] it's all I blame for.
It's [Fm] pretty solid as well.
