[Bb] I was touring Europe [G] doing house shows with my [Ab] sister and her partner when we came [G] up
with this concept for the Runaway Australia Tour.
Five [Fm] friends, five states, [C] three months, [A] two vans, 20,000 kilometers [G] of driving the coastline
and one summer of sustainable touring forming some memories we could keep forever.
[Gm] I've been so passionate [G] about sustainability both personally and my songwriting get so
quickly noticed [Ab] that my health was falling out of the balance the bigger that my career
got and this was only the start.
At 21 I never could have imagined [G] feeling so worn out and sustainability [F] starts with good habits.
It starts [Bb] with me.
It starts with you.
[F] I see I, well I keep my guard [C] up because you let me down.
[Am] But you can't blame [Bb] that I wasn't [F] always around.
I keep my guard [C] up because you were the one to [Am] run away.
[Bb] [F] I see I, well I keep my guard up because you let me down.
[C] But [Am] you can't blame [Bb] that I wasn't [F] always around.
I keep my guard [C] up because you were the one to [Am] run away.
[Bb] You were the [Dm] one to run away.
When I [F] got back home to Australia the biggest goal was to be healthier for myself again
and be healthy for my parents, for everybody else [D] playing music too.
You can [F] travel the whole world as a musician and [Fm] only see one room.
[C] I'm so proud of our land.
I think Australia is too beautiful not to explore and [A] adventure.
So how can we do it better?
[F] We start with little things.
We had our keep cups [E] which saved us using over 1,000 take away coffee [F] cups.
Eco jars over plastic water bottles eliminated the use of gladder completely using reusable
organic cotton wraps covered in beeswax.
We did beach clean outs after shows, put a solar panel on [Fm] top of the van and played shows
using only [A] the energy of the sun.
[Bbm] These things hardly saved the [Fm] world but the changes that I [Bb] could make, that we could make.
So we could share with [F] others as we learn along the way.
I keep my guard up [C] because you let me down.
[Am] But you can't blame [Bb] that I wasn't [F] always around.
See I keep my guard [C] up because you were the one to run [Am] away.
[Bb] [F] See I keep my guard up [C] because you let me down.
[Am] No, but you can't blame [F] that I wasn't always around.
See I keep my guard up [D] because you were the one to run [Am] away.
[Bb] Do we even get close to eliminating [B] all the plastic from our tour?
[G] Not at all.
But we search for every option and we try to replace each one that we've found.
It's going to be a little overwhelming the more you learn but that also means you're
going to be open to the better options out there.
And I truly believe that when people become aware of the [B] better choices they can make,
[F] want to make them.
And yeah I got tired touring but we worked things [Bb] together.
We played dozens of all ages [F] shows in coastal communities.
We busked, stowed away our new brother in the back of a van across the desert and nearly
ran out of fuel in an elevator.
Played to more people than I ever have before.
But most importantly I learned what I could change and I want you to know that sustainability
isn't [C] inconvenient.
Sustainable choice is as a [F] consumer and as an artist hard to start but a gift that keeps [A] giving.
Playing music to you on this tour gave me so much and this isn't a lot but this is
what I wanted to give back.
I [F] wasn't always around.
See I keep my guard up [C] because you were the one to run [Am] away.
[Bb] [F] See I, well I keep my [G] guard up because you let me down.
[Am] No but you can't blame [Bb] that.
I wasn't [F] always around.
See I keep my [D] guard up because you were the one to run [Am] away.
