Hi, thought I would do a tutorial now for a really cool Creedence Clearwater Revival song, Looking Out My Back Door.
I have covered this one a while ago and I love playing this song.
I just heard it again on the radio [D] today and realised I hadn't done a tutorial for it, so [G] here we go.
[E] Your capo, if you want to put a capo on to keep it in tune with the album version, put it on the first fret.
Alright, [F] [Fm] now the intro and verse chords are [Bb] the same.
The chords you are going to need are A, [Gm] F sharp [Gb] minor, [Gm]
[Fm] D, [Eb] [Bb] A,
[F] E, E or E7.
[Bb] [F]
On the E I like to introduce that little, play that second string on the second fret.
Not [E] quite sure what the name of that [F] chord is.
[Bb] Back to the A.
Strum is more or less down, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, up, down, down.
Except it's just really fast.
Quite a quick song.
So the intro will go like this.
A, [Gm]
F sharp minor, [Ebm] [Bb] D, [F] A, E, E, [Bb] E7.
And those chords keep up through the verse as well.
[Gm] [F]
[Bb]
[Gm] [Bb]
[Bb] [F]
So, we'll just break that down very slightly.
Actually, it's exactly the same as the intro.
[Gm] [Eb]
[Bb] [F]
[Bb]
[Gm]
[Eb] [Bb]
D, A, [F] E, E with that second string in [D] there.
Second fret there.
Release it.
[Bb]
Optional, you don't have to do [F] that.
Just go E to E7 if you'd [Bbm] rather.
[G] Okay, so that is the verse.
The same runs [Bb] straight through into verse 2 as well.
[Gm]
[Fm] So we can see that [Gm] strum.
Even though it's the down, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, it's a [Ab] quick up, [Gm] down.
Like that.
Down, down, down, down, down, down, [F] down.
D, [Bb] [F] A, E, E, E7.
[Bb] [Gm]
[Ebm] Now, [Bb]
[F]
we need [F] the
[Bb] Okay, [F] so for that it's just like I E.
[Cm] I suppose you could argue it was E7, [F] whatever you like.
[Eb] [Bb]
[Gm] Back to F sharp minor.
[F] So [Fm] no different chords, just in slightly different order there.
[F]
[Bb]
[Gm] [F]
[F] And then [Bb] the same chords as the intro.
[Gm]
[Eb] [Bb] Okay.
[F]
[Bb] Now, [F] those of you familiar with this song [Bb] will know that there's a key change in this one [Bb] now.
And that more or less [Gb] starts after the fourth [Cm] verse or something where the solo comes in.
[Fm] [G]
Where unfortunately we're going to need to [Ab] put some more [Gb] bar chords in.
Effectively it goes up a [F] couple of steps.
[Gb] So more or less, if you could quickly [Ab] whack your capo up two, you could [G] play the same chords.
[Gb] But obviously it's a pretty quick song and you can't just stop to move your capo.
So your [C] fingers are basically going to have to act [Bm] as the capo for the [G] same chords, more or less, but just up two frets.
[D] So, [Bb]
to run into that chord change, it's just the open fifth [A] on the sixth string, the fourth fret.
[Ab]
Sixth string, third fret.
[G] Then into a F sharp.
[F] Then D.
[Fm] [C] B.
B.
[Am]
A flat minor.
Yeah.
[G] Then F sharp.
F sharp seven.
[Bb] Right.
Nasty chords, so [Fm] just slowly.
[G] F sharp.
[F] [Fm] D.
[C] B.
D.
[Am] A flat [G] minor.
F sharp.
F sharp seven.
And then play those also for the [Ebm] last verse.
[F]
[G]
[F] Yeah, [C] B flat.
B, sorry.
[Am] B.
A flat minor.
[F] B.
[C] [G] B.
F sharp.
F sharp seven.
Then slow your strum down for the end, you know the tempo drop.
[C]
[Am]
A flat minor.
[F] E.
[C]
B.
[Bb] [G]
F sharp.
F sharp [C] seven.
[G] B.
[C]
[G] Throw a quick [C] F sharp [F] seven back to a B in there if you like.
[G] Right, so,
[F] yeah, that goes.
[C]
[Am] [F] [C]
[G] F sharp.
[Am] D.
B.
F [F]
[G] sharp.
[F] [G]
D.
[C] F sharp seven.
B to finish.
So yeah, the last half of that song is much harder than the first half.
[Eb] [Ab] And I guess you [E] wouldn't necessarily have to do the key change if you [G] really didn't want to,
if you find that too hard.
But anyway, that's looking out your [Gb] back, looking out your, looking [C] out my back door.
[G] Whatever, looking
