G'day, [D#] I'm going to try and do a tutorial for Half The World Away, one of [G] the nicest
Oasis songs to play [F#] acoustically.
[B] Noel does this on master plan with the [G] capo on the second
fret, quite often plays it without it, but [G#] we'll do it with the capo for this tutorial.
This one's a little bit about strumming pattern, you can get the strumming [D#m] pattern kind of
[G] right and I'm really hopeless at trying to explain it, but [B] basically I'll do it in the
intro.
It oscillates between a [D] C and an F major 7.
[F#m] I always play my C's with [A] the bottom
E [F#] as well, I think it sounds [D] better.
So the intro kind of goes down and up, up [G] down up,
down down up, up [D] down up, down down up, up [G] down up, down down up, up down up, sort of.
Anyway, [B] have a bit of a muck around with it and see what you think sounds best.
I'll just
listen to the intro and [D] the first verse.
[G] [D]
[G] [D] I would like [G] to leave this city, [D] this old town [G] don't smell too pretty.
[D]
I can [Bm] feel the
warning signs running around [G] my mind.
Okay, [D] so the intro is just as I said, just going from [G] C to an F major 7.
And then the
[D] first verse does [D] a warp down from a C down to an A minor.
So you go [C#]
into the [D] second fret
there on the A string.
[Am] I can [D] feel the warning [Bm]
signs.
Now D7's, D7's in this [D#] song, you know
the traditional [E] D7's play the top E string there.
Noel's very fond [B] of not playing the
top E string in a lot of his songs and this one he rarely [G] plays it as well.
If you want
to play it, go right ahead.
A lot of, most people do.
I try not to because I like to
do it the way Noel does it if I can.
[B] [D]
I can feel [Bm] the warning signs running around my [G] mind.
Up to the F major 7.
Mind.
And that's repeated again for the second verse.
[D] And if I [G] could leave this planet.
So I think that's the third verse [D] as well.
And if I [G] could leave this island, [D] I'd book myself into a [G] solar asylum.
[D] [C#m] I can [Bm] feel the warning signs running around my mind.
Okay, and [G] leading into the bridge.
Here I go.
Starts on the A minor.
[Bm] Here I [D] go.
To C.
Then D7.
[F#] Scratching around in [Bm] the same old hole.
To the A minor.
[F#m] So, [Bm] here [D] I go.
[F#] Scratching around in the [Bm] same old hole.
Okay, and the next bit starts on an F major 7.
[G] But my body feels young.
Now on this D7, Noel quite often uses his thumb and plays the bottom E string on the
second fret instead of the top E string.
Sounds a lot nicer.
If you can do it, go for it.
It's a bit hard if you're a learner I guess.
[F#]
And then it finishes [A] on a G.
And into a G7.
And I often play a 6th note as well.
It's a [G] nicer ring.
So, my body feels young but [G#] my mind is [A] very old.
That's repeated again.
First [Bm] part of it's repeated.
[D]
[F#] [Bm]
[G] Okay, the chorus bit.
Half the world away.
Most people play it with the F.
Full F.
Far chord F.
Try and pluck those strings a bit.
Play the chord to start with.
And F [Gm] minor.
[Bm]
[G#m] Okay, [F#] Noel often plays the F major [G] 7 instead of the full F.
[Gm]
[F#m] Strumming's a bit tricky on that.
I'll just play it up to speed the way I do [G] it and see if you like it.
[F#] [G] Half the world away.
[Gm] Half the world away.
[G] Okay, then back to the C [F#] and walking down to the A minor [D] again.
Half the world [Bm]
away.
Then the D7.
Lost up and found I [G] don't feel down.
That's the F major 7 again.
And then just playing that through until the clap clap bit.
[E] [D]
Half the world [Bm] away.
I've been lost, I've been found, but [G] I don't feel down.
And then you just play that whole thing again one more time.
Through for verse 3 and verse 4.
Then when you get to the end, after the second clap clap,
you're just going, oscillating between your C and your F major 7 again.
So it goes, [D] [G]
I don't [D] feel down.
[G]
I don't [D] feel down.
[G]
I don't [D] feel down.
[G]
[G]
And so on and so on.
And then the outro just again does your [D] walk down.
[Bm]
D7, F major 7, slow down, finish [D] on a C.
Okay, so those are the [G#] basic components of [F#] that song.
It's a really nice song to play.
And yeah,
Oasis songs to play [F#] acoustically.
[B] Noel does this on master plan with the [G] capo on the second
fret, quite often plays it without it, but [G#] we'll do it with the capo for this tutorial.
This one's a little bit about strumming pattern, you can get the strumming [D#m] pattern kind of

[F#m] I always play my C's with [A] the bottom

So the intro kind of goes down and up, up [G] down up,
down down up, up [D] down up, down down up, up [G] down up, down down up, up down up, sort of.
Anyway, [B] have a bit of a muck around with it and see what you think sounds best.
I'll just
listen to the intro and [D] the first verse.
[G] [D]
[G] [D] I would like [G] to leave this city, [D] this old town [G] don't smell too pretty.

Okay, [D] so the intro is just as I said, just going from [G] C to an F major 7.
And then the

So you go [C#]
into the [D] second fret
there on the A string.
[Am] I can [D] feel the warning [Bm]
signs.

the traditional [E] D7's play the top E string there.
Noel's very fond [B] of not playing the
top E string in a lot of his songs and this one he rarely [G] plays it as well.

[E] [D]
