[N] Hello, here's a tutorial for Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire.
This one is a good fun one to play on [F] guitar.
The [C] chords, [G] there's only three, very simple.
G,
C at 9,
[D]
D.
The only three chords throughout the whole song.
The fun with this one [F] though is
incorporating those little bass runs [G] within the chords.
Which isn't too hard because [F#] most of the notes you're almost fretting anyway as part of the chords.
So [G] there you go.
Get this, I'll [C] just play it once for you.
I haven't done it for a while so I might stuff it [G] up.
[Bm] [G]
Okay, good fun.
[D] So the strum
[G]
[C]
[G] More or [F] less, okay.
[B] Right, let me show you how to do those runs [G] now.
On your G,
come down for a C add [C] 9, and then you don't really have to [G] strum the C add 9.
[C] Shape it and then just play the 4th, 5th,
and then come back for your G, but hit the [D] 4th again [G] before strumming your G.
So you get this,
4th, 5th, 4th, G.
Okay, so you're already getting that [D] as part of [G] the G.
Just sort of focus a bit more on the 4th string with your strum.
[C] 4th, 5th, [G] 4th, G.
Next little [B] sequence is on the 5th string.
So you're going to be focusing [F] more on the 5th string with your strum.
[G]
[C] Down for the C add 9 again, this time play the 5th on the 3rd,
[A] open the 5th string,
[D] [G] back for your G, [Bm] hit the 5th string and [G] strum.
So,
okay, so you put those two together you get this.
[C]
[G]
[Bm]
[G] Again.
[A] Now this time you just hit [G] the 6th instead of the 5th while you get your G shape.
So the first [C]
time [B] you hit that 5th string on the 2nd, the [G] second time you hit the 6th string on the 3rd.
Which are both notes in your G chord anyway.
Okay?
[C] [G]
Right, that [Em] more or less [C#] stays the same [C] in the verse.
[G]
[C] [G]
[Bm] [G]
[C] [G]
[D] [G]
[D] And then when it comes to your chorus, so [G] all you want to do is run down the 6th string,
from the 3rd [F#] to the 2nd,
[E]
open [D] 6th,
open 4th,
strum your D.
[G]
[D]
[G] [D]
[C] C add 9, [G] G, [D] D,
burn and [C] the flames see a 9th [G] G and it burns, burns, burns.
[D] On the burns, burns, burns while you're fretting your [G]
G, you play the 6th strum, 5th strum,
4th strum.
If you want.
Don't have to, but.
[B]
Do again that same run from the intro there.
[C] [A] [G]
[B] [G]
6th string, 3rd fret, [A] open 5th,
[F#] 2nd finger up onto the [C#m] 2nd fret, 6th [G] string and back to the G.
3rd fret, 6th string.
Burning a fire, burning a fire.
Make my mother's dreams,
make my mother's dreams, my mother's dreams.
[Bm] [G] I fell for you [C] like [G] a child.
[C] [A] Ha, shit, I'm out of practice.
[G] I fell for you [C] like [G] a child.
[C] [G]
Oh, but the boy didn't cry.
[D] I fell into a [C] burning ring of [G] fire.
[D] Down, down, down in the [C] flames with [G] fire.
And it burned, burned, burned.
Burning a fire, burning a fire.
Anyway, as you can see I [Em] screwed it up, but with a bit more practice I remember [D] it a bit better again.
But they're more or less those little [F] riffs that [E] you can incorporate into those [F] relatively simple chords.
[F#] So, [F] a top song, great [G] one, everyone knows it.
So, go and learn it, I strongly suggest.
