[Bb] Hey this is TJ with Piano Clubhouse.
I'm going to show you Total Praise by Richard Smallwood
in the key of D flat.
[Bbm] [Db]
The introduction [Dbm] starts out on a D flat major chord.
Left hand is just hitting D flat.
And
between each phrase or between each measure, you're hitting this A flat.
[Ab] [Db]
Right hand is just hitting a D flat major chord.
In first position the D flat major
chord is D flat, F, and A flat.
I'm inverting it just to make it sound a little bit lower.
Inverting means just hitting the same note, but I'm hitting an octave lower.
So now this
A flat is right here.
I'm going to invert one more time so I'm going to move this F
down here.
Now we're in the register that I want to be at.
After the intro,
[Gb] [C] [Db]
those first
chords, left hand is going D flat, [Bb] C, B [C] flat, C, [Db] D flat.
It just goes down two notes of
the scale and walks back up.
[C] D flat, [Bb] C, B flat, [Db] C, D flat.
Right hand, we were right
here.
[Gb] When the left [Bb] hand walked down to B flat, right hand moves up to a G flat major
chord.
[Gb] G flat, B flat, D flat.
[C] [Cm] When you go to the C in the left hand, [Ab] right hand goes
to an A flat major chord, inverted.
A flat, I'm sorry, E flat, A flat, C.
[Db]
Then back to
the D flat major chord.
If you're more comfortable with your right hand being in root position,
[Bbm] the [Gb] four chord, D flat, G flat, B flat, C, E flat, A [Db] flat, back to D flat major chord.
[Eb]
[Fm] Moving on, the next two [Eb] chords, left hand is going from D flat to E flat to [F] F.
[Db] Right hand,
we were right here.
When you go to the E flat, move the right hand to [Eb] a four chord, which is
an inverted G flat chord.
The notes are D flat, G flat, B flat, and you can add this F if you like.
Next, left hand goes to F, [Eb] right hand going to the 2 [F]-5-1.
E flat, [Db] A flat, and D flat.
I think
that sounds really [Fm] good there.
Next, left hand [Gb] continues to go up to the G flat, right hand
goes to four chord.
The one we just left, two chords ago.
B flat, F, G flat, B flat.
Now,
left hand goes back to F, and the right hand goes back to the 2-5 [Fm]-1.
[F]
Next, left hand goes to D,
natural.
Right [D] hand goes to F, A flat, D.
You could have done it here as well, since your hand was
here, if you didn't want it to travel as far.
But I'm going here because I'm setting up what's
coming next, which is, in my mind, my brain shift to the key of G flat at this point.
[Ebm] [Bb] [Ebm] Okay,
let's go back into that.
[Db]
[Fm] [D]
Left hand's at D, right hand is F, A flat, D, [Ebm]
and then it resolves to E
flat.
And the bass from D to E flat, right hand goes [D] from F, A flat, D, [Ebm] to G flat, B flat, E flat.
[B] Okay, [Bb] and these [B] chords, this is the G flat four chord.
G flat, B, and E flat.
Add this B flat if
you like.
Left hand is on B, natural.
Next chord, the left hand goes down to B [Bb] flat, right hand goes
to F, A flat, D.
Okay,
[Ebm]
next, left hand goes to E flat, right hand goes to G flat, B flat, E flat.
[B] [Bb] [Ebm] Your left hand is going to do a little [Ebm] bit of walking here.
He's going to do the work.
He helps
this part to really move.
[B] Left hand's going to go B, [Gb] [B] F, [F] [Bb]
B flat, [D] D, [Ebm]
E flat.
One more time.
[B] B,
excuse me, [F] B, F, [Bb] B flat, [D] D, [Ebm] E flat.
Right hand [B] over the B, he's doing a G flat four chord with
the B flat.
[F] Let that F go by itself.
[Bb] When you get to the B flat, we're going to do this F, A flat.
