Hi
No, hey, it's a Sean Martin, and I'm here at the Piano Clubhouse
With me and Tom Hanks, TJ, and so I'm gonna do a couple of things I use for a practice regimen for piano
First thing I [C] do
Is [Eb] primarily scales.
I do them slow
[Ab] Slow so I'll do
The best thing for me to [Abm] do is I'll do one octave
[C] [D] [E] [F] [G]
[A] [B] [C] [B] [A] [G]
[F] [E] [D] [C] Two octaves eighth notes, [E] [G] [A] [C] [D] [E] [Am]
[C] [A] [F] [E] [C] [A]
[Gm] [E] [D] [C] three octaves triplets
[E] [Am]
Four
[E]
[C] octaves [E] [Am] sixteenths.
[Gm] [Am]
[E] [C]
[Eb] I do that in all 12 keys moving in a circle of fifths [Bb] so
[Em] So I'll do C, [D] G, [A] D, [E] A, E, [Gb] B, [Db] F sharp, C sharp
[Fm] Then I go to the [D] flats [F] and I'll do F, [C] E [Eb] flat, E flat, [Bbm] A flat
[Eb] Then after that you're just repeating [N] stuff inharmonically so [Bb] and I do that that way
[Ab] That was something I learned I was a kid
[Bb] You know that's how I learned my scales, [C] but I do that that [Bb] way because that way you're adding one sharp at a time
So you know if I'm doing C has no sharps or flats, G has one sharp, D [Ebm] two sharps A
3, E 4, B 5, F sharp 6, C sharp 7
[N] So you know same thing with the flats you know one flat
I add one flat, that's F, two flats, three flats, four flats, A flat
So [Ab] that's that's kind of how you know that's that practice regimen for scales.
Another thing that I do for
[Bb]
[Ebm] For
Just good technique [Bb] is I do this other these things called
[N]
Handing exercises [Eb] and one
Quick [D]
popular one that a lot of people do is they do [Eb] the one where you rotate your wrists that way you [E] know
[Eb] Rotate your wrist you'll kind of get a little [Gb] bit more fluidity.
That's the right [C] word [Bb] over the key, so this [D] one is simple
Do it [Am] a C
[E] [Dm] [Em]
[Am] So [Dm] [G]
[Am] [G] [C]
[A] [C] [G]
[Am] [G] [A]
[F] [Em] [D] [F] [Dm] [Em]
[D] [C] [Ab] I'll do [Gb] those most hand exercises are in [A] C
But [Ab] the but it's designed to [Eb] help get the notes up [Ab] under your [Am] fingers
[F] [Em] [Am] [G]
[C] [G] [Am] [G]
[C] [Ebm]
Stuff like that kind of helps you know helps helps develop you know [N] your technique
That way you know you know just put it up under your hands
[Eb] Another thing I like to do [D] is arpeggios, so I do [C] you know
Then [E] [C]
I [Abm] do know I might do I [C] might add a [E] 7 or [C]
[Eb] diminish
[A]
[C] You know
[Ab] You know stuff like stuff like that
And if you if you have a [F] hard time doing it, you know [N] two hands just do one hand at a time
You know [C] one [D] hand at a time
[E] And [F] [Gm] [B] [Eb] [E]
[Am] [Em] [F] [E] [D]
[C] [Bb]
[Gb] [Ab] [Bb] [B] [Db] [Eb]
[F] and [Gb] [Bb] [Eb] [Db]
[B] [Bb] [Ab] [Gb]
[F] what I would also suggest [Eb] to you know if you start getting [D] into if scales your [Ebm] type of thing
Um
Find out [Abm] the you can [Dbm] find this out online as [Eb] well the correct fingering
[Ab] For it for your scales because like a lot of the black keys like F sharp a flat
[A] When you're doing scales your thumb can't touch [Bb] a black note and there and the reason for that is because it's gonna
It's gonna inhibit your speed [Eb] if you're like to say you're doing like you know I
Can't even think of [N] a piece that have like a long scale, but you know, but you know, but if you're [Db] doing you know
[Ab] [C] Now I [N] can't do that number because I can't cross over I can't I can't okay
So, [Db]
[Ab]
you know, that's like that type of stuff but [A] good technique is very very important
No, hey, it's a Sean Martin, and I'm here at the Piano Clubhouse

[Gm] [Am]
[E] [C]
