Ok, welcome to LessonsWithTroy.com.
This is your Dobro lick of the day.
This is lick number two.
Ok, I have to give credit to this one.
Last night at a Dobro class that I was teaching, one of my students, Ben Parley, kind of played
it something like this.
I can't really even remember if this is exactly what he played.
It brought to mind this kind of lick.
But I got it zoomed in so it's all in your open position.
And this is in G.
This lick [Bb] will work over a G chord, G7 [D] chord, whatever, like [N] a bluegrass
kind of setting.
But I'll play it, it uses a lot of hammer-ons and pull-offs.
And I'll play it slowly and kind of explain exactly what I'm doing there.
[B] [E]
[G] Ok, so that's the lick.
[B] [G]
Now you can end that a little bit different.
You know, you can end it a lot of different ways.
You can [Bb] end it instead of going to the high G, your third string, you can go to your low sixth string.
That would sound like this.
[B] [D]
[G] [B]
[E] [G]
[N] Ok, now let me explain exactly what I'm doing there.
First of all, [A] I'm [G] going to 2 on my third string with a hammer-on. [G] [B] And then I'm going [B] open second string, [A] [G] [A] second string, open, back to my second fret, third string. [Bbm] I'm going up to my second [B] string, doing a hammer-on pull-off, 0, 1, 0. [Bm] [A] [B]
[Bm] [G]
[B] [G] Then [Bb] I come back to do a pull-off, [N] 2 to on my third string. [B] [G]
Ok, so far we've got [B] to 2, second string open, second fret, third string. [B] [G] Then I 0, 1 to 0, hammer-on pull-off on my second string, first fret. [G] Then do a [Bm] 2 to on my third string. Then I [Ab] do fourth fret, fourth string, [G] third string open. [B] [A] [G] [E]
[G] [Em] Then I do or, [G] whichever G you [D] want to hit. [D] That last part is to 2 to on my fourth string. [G] You either hit that sixth string open, or [G] hit [D] your third string open, or [G] [Ab] slide it up [B] to your fourth string, fifth fret, to hit that [E] G. [D] [G] [Ab] Or, you know, [C] slide up to your high G [G] there. Then I play that whole lick again. [B] [G] [Em]
[B] Ok, slowly let [G] me go through it again. [B] [G] Real slow, I'll play it real slow. [A] [B] [A]
[Gb] [G] [E]
[Gm]
