Hey guys, James Anaya here, Emerald City Guitars in Seattle.
[Bb] Today we have a very special rare guitar, [F] 2013 Gibson Harrison Clapton Les Paul, [C] famously
known as Lucy.
So the really special thing [Am] about the original Lucy is actually the whole story, the back
story, where it came from and [Bb] where it ended up.
It's set around 1966, Rick Derringer sent this guitar back to the Gibson factory in
Kalamazoo [F] and had them actually take off the original Bigsby vibrato that was on here and
actually [A] refinish this to this [Dm] beautiful carry finish that we see here today.
When Rick Derringer got the guitar back from Gibson, he played it a little [F] bit and he actually
had a hard time connecting with the guitar again.
[Dm]
For whatever reason, maybe it was just a lack of the Bigsby or whatever it was, he [F] decided
to sell it.
It just so happened that Clapton was actually [D] in the market for a Gibson Les Paul with PAFs,
which is how he [Bb] ended up with Lucy.
So after Eric Clapton ended up buying this guitar, he [F] decided to gift the original Lucy
to George Harrison of the Beatles.
So the original [Bb] Lucy was closely, meticulously, and intimately examined in order to create
[F] what we have here today as the reissue slash recreation of the Harrison [G] Clapton Les Paul.
This guitar was [Gm] part of a very limited run of only [Bb] 100 guitars exclusively sold in [C] North America.
This guitar features a [Bb] plain maple top with an off-center seam, which was actually pretty
normal for [Dm] 50s Gibson.
And as per usual, the one-piece [Bb] mahogany back.
As far as the pickups go, we have two custom buckers, a little bit [C]
rarer, lesser seen Alnico
three magnets wound very, very closely [Bb] to kind of match the 57 PAF that were on the original.
As [F] far as the neck goes, it's a nice round 50s profile.
Fits right in the palm [Bb] of your hand.
We have nickel kidney button Grover tuners, [F] a one-piece rosewood fingerboard.
The really cool thing about [Bb] this thing is it was hand-aged.
And if you look at a picture of the original [F] one, it's just so close.
The custom shop over at Gibson did [Bb]
an incredible job.
You [C] can tell they were very meticulous [F] about all the little details that you see on the
body, all the aging, all the relic-ing, [Gm] all the patina.
So now with the purchase of the [Bb] recreation Lucy back in 2013, the guitar came with a
leather-bound [F] certificate of authenticity, which included [D] a remastered version of the
words by Clapton [F] himself and an actual signature by Eric Clapton.
[Dm] Just really cool, really special.
Very nice to have.
Okay, so I'm going to run this baby through a 1969 [Bb] Marshall Blues Breaker 410.
